Been a while since I've seen this stuff at Walmart… But lo and behold they had a couple of cartons yesterday priced at 29.46 so I grabbed them.

I went back by this afternoon and pretty well cleaned them out, picked up another 6 cartons. I had worked out of town and there was a good sporting goods store in the town. Checked his prices and they had Winchester cartons of 150 for $59.99, Others had prices of 17, 19 and 21/50. I would like to support small business but sometimes you have to look elsewhere. My grandson is learning to shoot, and not good enough yet to justify high price ammo, so CCI it is.

Short answer: Not yet.

I am not a fan of bulk rimfire ammo of any kind, but I picked up a couple cartons when WMR was really hard to find. I pulled out my rim sorting tool, and found that it was just as uniform as any other CCI product, (which is very good). Shooting it in my assortment of .22 WMR rifles and handguns, it shoots to the same POI as the 50rd or 200rd. I'm guessing that the difference in cost is a matter of packaging and packing materials. You could dump a lot more ammo/unit time into the carton, there's no plastic "thingy" to mess with on a packaging line.

As to rim sorting, I sorted the carton ammo into the MTM 100 round flip top boxes. A nearly pointless task as it turns out, it all shoots the same. I've shot my way through about one carton, checking drop and group size with my handguns and rifles, 125yds with rifles, 15yds with my 2" LCRx, 50yds with my Single Six and Super Wrangler, (six total). No big number, but no issues to report. Fliers, minimal and few. No misfires, but my collection hasn't had a misfire with anything I've tried. The foxes were impressed, but not for long.

I wouldn't avoid a sale on "milk carton" CCI 22 WMR.

Weather reports are looking good for early next week, so I started loading some magazines for my new S&W M&P .22wmr. 25 rounds per magazine ( they say the capacity is 30 rounds) gives me 5 magazines per carton. Following instructions on opening carton or at least the ones I got did nothing, the spout tears apart. I did load the 5 magazines, plus went ahead and opened an extra carton for my CZ 457 Lux and a S&W M 48 so I will not have to fight it at the range.

I bought a carton at a local WalMart at $30.99 or so to try in a recently bought Ruger 77/22 Mag. full stock. It shot quite well, no misfires and actually proved to be the most accurate of the eight different brands/loads I bought to try.

Went back a couple of days later to get the other two cartons that were on the shelf when I bought the first carton and they were gone.

I'll keep an eye out when I drop by WalMart in the future.
