I have been sick and tired of going to paint ball stores to get my 2- 4500# air tanks filled. Most of the time the paint ball stores have an excuse for only selling you a 4000 # fill. So I made the jump and got the Carette compressor from Air tanks for Sale. With shipping and the Alpha air filter /moisture absorber it cost around $1,700.00 . Now I will have the convenience of have air when needed between gas and wasting 2 hours a week to get the tanks filled I'll break even in a year and a half.
In the same price range were 2 other ones but even though the Carette is the newest on the market place in my mind it is the best choice. The two main competitors are more prone to maintenance issues , but one big plus on the Carette is that it's relatively quiet I can be on the phone standing next to it without a problem, it makes about the same noise as my table top drill press. I'm able to go from 2800 to 4500 in 40 minutes or so. High end PCP air rifles are a bigger investment than my powder rifles but now I'm able to go target shooting in my yard.

Linky?

I've got to admit that I'm too cheap to worry about getting high-$ HP tanks when I've got a stable of scuba tanks that can get the job done & don't spend much time shooting the PCP anyway, but in the interest of promoting the thread, thought I'd ask the question some other lazy reader is going to post eventually... :D

Brian Brian Brian OMG I have been on the waiting list for so long for the Alpha Carette Compressor and the FX Impact .A week or so ago I got a call from AOA letting me know that my rifles ready to ship months ahead of schedule and had to pay for it so. I happily did a few hours later to my disbelief I got a call that my compressor was in :confused:Not having enough money for both unfortunately for now I had to hold off on the compressor .At this point sometime in July I plan on getting the compressor when I have saved up enough money .If anything comes up where you find that there are problems or things we should know about on this forum please post it .In the meantime congratulations it will make life a lot easier:)

I'm sure you'll be happy. Remember you will need some antifreeze to install compressor it comes with the oil to get started, I bought some Bauer compressor oil for oil changes down the road. The first one after 5 hours then every 15 hours or so. If you got it with the Alpha air filter I found the best price on replacement cartridges here

I also added a bleed valve to the output end of the of the filter just in case I fill a rifle directly.

I would also have handy a roll of plumbers teflon tape and some soapy leak detector as some of the fittings may have a slight leek. If you get stuck PM me with your phone number and I'll talk you through.

Do a search for his other posts on the Carette there is a lot of good info.

Just got my Carette air compressor this thing is awesome filled up a couple of paintball tanks. I had recently gotten my 75 cubic foot air gun tank filled only to find out that they filled it to 3800 psi so I top that out to 4500 PSI in about 10 minutes .Anyone buying this compressor should know that the large main gauge is not meant to be filled with glycerin. I found that out the hard way as it leaks out .Come to find out the manufacturer states that it should not be used .Other than that I have had no issues and I would recommend this to any single gun user who is looking for a compressor to fill either PCP or paintball gun tanks. This compressor is just amazing we'll see you in the long run.

The basic unit is &1299 then add $100 for the auto drain and $ 299 for the alpha moisture filter and pmv and yes 110 volt .If you're looking for an air compressor for one man operation this is probably the best value going .I did a lot of shopping around and nothing matched this as far as options .I filled three air tanks one 75 cubic foot tank for my air rifles and two paintball tanks everything worked flawlessly and it has an auto shut-off .So you don't need to watch it you can set it and forget it.

Congrats on the compressor!

You must be pumped! (pun intended)

:p

For those who don't have a pump and are dependent on other for filling you may want to look up fire supply companies. I found one near me that fills SCBA tanks:

(Jerome Fire is in Clay, NY for anyone in Central New York.)

Their fill is about $12, but they understand that a few hundred PSI might be lost as the tank cools. :t

Thanks for your reply.
Good point about air quality from paintball sources.
I found this thread, which you might have already seen that gives a pretty thorough review and teardown analysis of the Carette.

I have a reliable source of SCUBA air not too far away that can give me 3700 psi on a good day. But at around $10. a hit plus the general inconvenience it's not a perfect solution.
Well, anyways, thanks for your help. If Joe reduces the price another $100. I'll probably fall all over myself to put my rationalization engine in high gear. :)
