Can't we all just get along?

this place is like a wildfire, one little spark and it's off and running.
let's just try to keep it civil please. i wish i could just let everyone
get everything off their chest, but before long there would be some
really ugly posts and they'd probably just take this forum down, which
i wouldn't blame them as it really wouldn't be serving any good purpose.
all of you guys have added alot of knowledge and information in the past
that i think has helped the new guys decide whether to shoot benchrest
and buy certain guns and equipment. when you're young and starting
out like ek for example, every dollar saved is one you can put into ammo
for practice. lets get back to where we were, trading info instead of insults.
thanks tom c.
and hey if you don't like the job i'm doing complain to partner. she'll kick my
butt out. the only pay i get out of it is usually a hard time. i could definitely
use some beauty sleep. a lot of it.

Probably shouldn't stick my nose in here, but here goes...

Think you're more patient than is warranted. Sometimes a kick in the butt solves a lot of problems.

Like to watch this forum to learn. Nothing more, nothing less. Have learned a lot, once I figured out the playing field.

Am a big kid, so the mud flying all over the place doesn't personally bother me other than it detracts from the true knowledge and information that's buried in between the narcissistic and childish rants. Actually find in it a lesson on how to assign a grade to my own behavior. I never try to understand why people act like goobers, just can figure it out when they are being goobers.

Not trying to put anyone down, the players here know the roles they're playing. I'm a nobody just trying to learn something from this mess. But, here's a hint for some... putting a smiley face at the end of a sentence that belittles someone really doesn't change the fact that you belittled them.

If people posted information with facts, but left out the personal vendettas it would help. Pretty simple idea.

Just my opinion

alot of people browse alot of forums, i had hoped it wouldn't be like benchrest
central where people are afraid to post i think because of the criticism that
sometimes follows it. it's a shame, i believe the more thoughts thrown in
often if not even close to solving a problem causes others to get new ideas
that may solve a problem. i wish more would throw their two cents in. thanks.

tom c you don't have to worry about me causing a problem for a while, I think I'll go back to bed and pull the covers over my head........still wiping the tears from my eyes. Most of my fur sold yesterday in Canada at the North American Fur Auction. Not Good at all............Going to start training my Suhl to shoot Wal-Mart BULK ammo and not much of that!

The beating has already happened. It's a done deal. There were some items that didn't sale due to not making the reserve so to speak. NAFA has a price on each lot that is unknown(?) to the buyers. If it doesn't make that price NAFA doesn't sell it. I had several coon, some otter, and muskrat that didn't sell because of them not making the reserve. The muskrats were selling at a decent price so if they hold it'll be OK on them, the otter were down quiet a bit from last year.Ouch! , but the coon .......well that's not worth talking about.

Maybe you'd better call Flykiller and break the news to him!:D

Tom, I'm fairly new to benchrest shooting and to this forum, and both have meant a great deal to me over the past year as I have grown in knowledge and experience. I too would like to see a more peaceful, civil forum where we could exchange ideas and share knowledge without personal attacks. I will never attack another shooter on this forum even if I don't disagree with and/or like them personally.

Cordially,
Lesley

My sentiments exactly.

thanks blanco. it would be great if you could post what you thought without
being attacked for saying it, whether you were right or wrong in the long run.
at least you would have said what you thought.

Tom C....Suggestion...

Tom:

I know that this suggestion will probably go over like a lead balloon, but, why doesn't this forum require everyone who registers to use their own name... I am not ashamed to use mine.

This would eliminate a lot of the negative posts by people that are "keyboard" forum pot stirrers. Post under your own name and let people see who you are and what you have to say... Don't hide behind some ficticious name...

Just a suggestion.....

I don't think it works nearly as much as we'd like to think (looking at some other boards) but regardless it requires more integrity than not.

My initials EK (for Evan Koch) are in my handle. I use another name on other boards that contains my last name. Feel free to address me by name or initials if you would like.

grover i hate to tell you this but alot of people think you're really ernie
and that grover niles is not a real name. if i posted my last name no one
would believe that it was really my name anyhow.
and grover if you look on the mike ross forum i'm pretty sure i'm tom c. there
as well.

Being afriad of controversy is not neccessary a good thing in my mind. I wasn't a bully in school but some of them made more of a man out of me in the long run. The school is now a kinder gentler place. Does that mean the schools are a better place to learn now? Doesn't seem like it. If a straight A student, Eagle Scout forgets that his boy scout knife is in his back pack, the school comes down on him like the hammer of Thor. If Mom drops off little Sally in the parking lot, and Dad has left his rifle in the trunk, guess who is in trouble.
This Country was founded on principles of not being pushed around. When did it become alright to not keep score and give every little league player a trophy?
This is a gun forum for crying out loud. You can believe my guns will protect me and mine if neccesary. If the bullets start flying I will not stand up with a white flag and say "can't we all get along?". Mike Rupley 4581 Wendsan Lane Placerville Ca. 95667 530 677-2842 mrupley@jps.net

Dave...... I have often thought that when I first joined this board, that I should have registered with my actual name. There was no reason not to, except that my GREEN607 was my username on a couple other boards on-line. My personal info is included in my profile here.

And your idea sounds like a good idea, on the surface. But the more I thought about having my username changed to my real name (by Admin)... I realized, there are those who will never reveal who they are..... so, no level playing field. By that, I mean if we were all required to do so, I believe it would wind up being a detriment to what we're trying to do here on RFC.... sharing our experience, our current projects, our photos, etc.

Here on RFC, unlike alot of boards, we post pics of our guns and equipment and in some cases, even our vehicles and homes. If only those who posted (or were registered members) had their real names as their username.. it would feed the trolls and the thieves who never actually register, but only lurk on these boards to leach info on personal gun collections, etc.

In other words, I fear that much of the 'sharing' would cease..... as some of our good members either have 2 homes (summer/winter) or travel extensively for their line of work or whatever. Some of them may not have a way to constantly protect their homes, vehicles, etc.

The threads we see far too often, about stolen guns, is proof that there are people out there who apparently glean info from these boards (example: Joe Blow says, in response to a question, "Yeah Vern, I'll be at such and such a match at this certain club on this coming Sat"). Now, the thieves know that 1) that shooter won't be home, and 2) their vehicle, with expensive guns and equipment on board, will be in such and such an area on a given day or weekend. Not a good thing, IMHO.

BTW, I didn't come in here last night to "stir the pot". It just seems to me that the rule about not 'dissing' another member w/ personal attacks..... should also apply to not dissing/bashing other prominent shooters and gun makers. I see way too much of this, and was trying to point out that some had "crossed the line" where gun board etiqette is concerned. If you want to dish it out, then take your medicine. I don't have an agenda, or a personal vendetta against anyone here, truly. I maybe took it a little too far, and was unkind to earnest.... and for that, I apologize.

Green607:

My post was not intended to offend anyone. It was, as I said, just a suggestion and I hoped that it would have been taken that way.. As for you, I know who you are and I respect you and your opinions...

Sorry if I offended..

this is a gun forum not a gunfight.
most people here have posted under aliases,
in most of the forums i've visited. my number
isn't listed in the phone book so i won't be
bothered by people who i don't want to hear from.
and dave s. i have no idea who you are, is your
name really just s.? it would be hard i think for
all of us to go back and change our names to
our real name, i guess you could put it in your
personal data if you wanted to. pm me if you
want my name and phone no. i probably have
talked on the phone to a third of the people on
here. i'm open to any ideas on making this a
better forum. the trouble with letting people
attack each other, eventually someone makes a
physical threat and it could potentially escalate to
actual violence, i'm sure w5i2n you could defend your
home but should you have to think about it actually
having to be done because of an argument on a
forum? not really. i've noticed on other forums as
well it's not allowed to go on forever. and it won't here
if i didn't try to put the brakes on it, i'm sure the admin.
would and they've threatened to shut it down if it
keeps up and i don't take take that lightly. if i wanted
to argue and fight i'd go hit the bars again. i'm gettin'
kinda old for that stuff anymore, broken bones don't
heal as well or as quick as they once did.

I am often amazed at what other people will type and then actually hit the 'submit' button.

I have found that life is more better with lots of 'back' button use. I only rarely post on threads that could end up with any emotional investment on my part [ there was one exception recently on the Annie forum ]. Going to matches is what makes RF BR fun for me. The internet squabbles are a big joke. We had 10 shooters and 14 entries at the last match and EVERYBODY seemed to enjoy themselves immensely. The same can't be said for some of the internet nonsense.

Tom C, I think you do a great job here and hope you will continue to volunteer to be site adminstrator. We know it is a thankless job! Overall, this is a great site and has provided me, a relative newbie, with lots of great information about BR Shooting. Just so you know I have recently purchased my second heavy Suhl 150 Rifle, originally made by Mr. K.C. Young. I am hooked on this sport and on this site.

Thanks,

Ken

TOm : Welcome to the human rase !! There are some that reguardless how hard you try to get along, they try to find fault or pick fights just for the heel of it. Personally I don't care if I liked or not. I have tried to get along with all here so I feel no shame or remorse. I will try to defend my position as a gentleman and respond accordingly as the situation requires. I have defended others when I thought it right to do reguardless wheather or not I agreeded with what they had to say. Some have come from no where and know nothing but all the sudden they are king of the hill and know everything. Some time it is best to say nothing Mudd Turtle.

you might please some of the people all the time,
and you might please all of the people some of the time.
but you'll never please all of the people all of the time.
(variation of a john stuart mills thought).
but hey i can try, i just want to learn what i can and
have a good time doing it. i did learn one thing a long
time ago. i don't know everything and i've got a lot
more to learn.
