Burris scopes review

I'd like to share my good experiences with Burris scopes. Until a few months ago, I never owned one. Now I have purchased five of them so far.

I want to point out that I'm not well versed in quality scopes, but I know a decent scope when I see one. I consider these scopes as mid grade scopes. Some may consider them low mid grade. I have done a lot of reading about them and read many reviews on them and on many other different scopes, focusing on the critical reviews first. All of these scopes are +/- $200.

Since Amazon has a 30 day return policy, I had nothing to lose if I wasn't happy purchasing my first one.

The first scope I ordered was a Droptine 3-9x40 with a 100 yard fixed parallax and I was very pleased with it. Aside from the zoom adjustment dial being too stiff for my liking, it is a great scope. It has a Ballistic Plex reticle.

The second one I ordered was another Droptine 3-9x40 but for a rimfire this time. It has the fixed parallax set at 50 yards. The zoom adjustment is stiff on it too. It is perfect for a squirrel hunting rifle. 🤌🏻

I bought my dad a Burris Fullfield IV 2.5-10x42. Fixed parallax is set at 100 yards. It has an illuminated Ballistic Plex E3 reticle which is rather busy. He mounted it on a 17 HMR and loves it. The zoom on it was stiff also.

At this point, I came to the conclusion that the zoom on all the Burris scopes that I can afford were going to be stiff. I can live with that because the rest of the scopes are wonderful.

I ordered a Fullfield E1 4.5-14x42. It has an adjustable parallax knob on the side from 50 yards to infinity. This was my favorite scope so far. It has the Ballistic Plex E1 reticle which is a Christmas tree style like the E3, but not as busy. The zoom is stiff like the others. Acorns are not safe at 50 yards with this scope.

I loved the E1 so much, that I ordered another one but with the simple Ballistic Plex reticle.

All of the scopes are clear and bright. They have good weight to them and feel like a quality, robust component. The windage and elevation knobs have positive clicks, but you have to focus to feel them. All of my scopes return back to zero.

Burris has a "forever", no questions asked warranty. So they are scopes for life. With each of these purchases, I was trying to find another brand to go with at this price point but Burris kept beating the others out. Vortex was a close second for me but I like the looks of Burris more. I own a Vortex and it's a very good scope as well and they also have a good reputation.

For the stiff Burris zoom adjustments, I intend on ordering throw levers.

I'd like to hear others experiences or opinions with Burris, and other brands that cost around $200. I have other rifles that need upgraded.

I really like Burris myself. I’ve used their warranty, and it’s top notch. Vortex warranty is great also. Would like to buy only Leupold, but can’t afford it. Have thought about trying Athlon, but not sure about their product or warranty. Over half of my optics are Burris, and they’re hard to beat.

In a perfect world, we'd all have Leupold scopes. 😁 I don't own one, but I have been tempted.

I've read good reviews on Athlon. If you haven't watched any of Cyclops reviews on YouTube yet, I strongly suggest them. He puts scopes through the test and gives his honest opinions and he's funny. He's also a member here.

Iv'e had 2 Burris scopes and they are good scopes.
Of course mine are from the 80's.
Son still has one on his 30/06.
Mine developed a problem with a reticle that came loose and so far there is no way to address it.
Contacted them but they cant repair a discontinued model.
Its an older Fullfield 2 1/2 power shotgun scope.
There is no equivalent model on the market now.
Its been on my 30/06 since the early 80's and never had an issue until last year.

Wonderful lifetime warranty's,huh?

this isn’t against the person I quoted but pointing out the “Lifetime warranty”.

however what a lifetime warranty is good for generally speaking is it typically means you will get something decent.

I have 8 Leupolds. 1 vortex, 1 Simmons, 1 Nikon, 1 Lyman target spot, 2 tascos, a bushnell red dot, millet red dot, and 2 Burris. One Burris is a 6-24 fullfield, and the other is a velocitor 5-25. The latter was a FREE replacement for a Black Diamond that failed. I like Burris. But my clearest scopes are clearly the Leupolds, 6.5-20s, 6-18, heck the 3-9 is clear, and the 4-14 is darn good too.

That stinks! Did you make the decision to keep your old scope? Did they offer you another scope?

They replaced your broken scope. I've seen their YouTube video and they say no questions asked, so I'm assuming Rat458 has chosen not to get a free replacement.

Leupold is my preferred scope, but they're above my budget which is around $200 for my rimfires.

They said they could replace it with a equivalent unit but they have nothing in their line thats even close.

Most of my scopes are Leupold , but I do have a couple Burris , and over the years have had several.
The Burris scopes I do have are 20 or more years old. They are good scopes.
Burris scopes are made in the U.S. , Philippines and Japan.
Japan makes high end scopes.
Unlike other companies that farm out their business to other countries. Burris actually sent all the equipment needed to make the scopes to the Philippines. So all their scopes are made to the same specs and on the same equipment.

As far as Vortex. Sorry , not a fan.
It's good they have a lifetime warranty , because more than likely , you will need it.

Yes sir. But they over price their cutely named scopes to make up the difference. Now they have a government contract. They must have one hell of a salesman.

I don’t know about Leupold’s salesman but I think they have one hell of a product! About forty years ago I bought a Browning B-78 with a 26 inch, heavy round barrel in 22-250. I had wanted this rifle for a long time and had been saving for it for quite a while. Then I got laid off and so my rifle fund had to stay where it was in case it was needed for more important things. I landed another job so I went to order my coveted “High Wall”. Browning had discontinued the rifle and I couldn’t find one anywhere. I tried a local store famous for their high prices and they said “Sure, no problem.” Paying top dollar for my rifle depleted most of my savings so the optics would have to wait. I was soooo tempted to just buy a more budget friendly scope so I could just shoot my beautiful rifle but I continued to save until I could afford my “Holy Grail” of varmint scopes. A Leupold 12 power silhouette scope. I still have my beautiful High Wall and that Leupold is as clear and sharp as the day I bought it. Since then I have acquired several more rifles and have chosen to put Leupold on them as well. A few years ago I bought a Browning T-bolt 22lr and was going to buy a different brand of scope to try something different. I looked through all of my Leupolds and ended up asking myself why would I do that. I chose a VX Freedom 3-9X40 Rimfire MOA and am happy I stuck with them.
