Looking to get one of these for a Ruger Mark IV Competition 22LR pistol. I've never used a red dot before. Which would be better for a pistol the 8moa or 3 moa dot? What's the biggest pros and cons of this model? Is there a better option? Uses for primarily targets and occasional hunting.

Thanks again

If you're going to shoot Steel Challenge or Rimfire Challenge get the largest dot you can. The large dot will help you get on the steel plate center mass quickly.

If you're shooting bullseye targets get the smaller dot. small dots for 10 rings.

I have five red dots two are C-More, a 12MOA and 16 MOA on Ruger 22/45's for speed shooting steel plates (RFPO). I have a Burris fastfire III 3 MOA on a Block 34 for IDPA up close work and two Holosun's on 10/22's again for Steel Challenge and Rimfire Challenge.

I have 2 of em. One is on a 870 turkey blaster, other is on a henry 22. Both are 3 moa dots, and I had to send one back with holding zero issue. They sent me a new unopened replacement. Tried one on a 40 cal S&W, and quickly realized I had a hard time finding the dot on every draw. I don't care for dots on pistols, but I like the fastfire 3. Another one I like that is robust, and affordable is Vortex sparc 2. Much better suited for a rifle than a handgun though.

I’ve owned a couple dozen or more red dots over the last thirty years. I consider the Burris FF3 and the Vortex Venom about the two best at their price range, and to tell the truth even the more expensive ones don’t shoot any better (I’ve owned several). For hunting I use a 3moa dot, and when I was shooting steel plate three gun shoots I still used a 3moa although the larger dots are a bit easier to pick up. It didn’t seem to hurt my shooting any, I did pretty well for quite a few years until I switched gears to single shot rifles (Sharps, High Walls, and Low Walls).

For your intended use the 3 MOA would be my choice.
I have a 3 MOA Fastfire III on my Target model that I shoot small steel and targets with. It looks nice on the gun, and functions as it should. I also like the size of the sight window. But I don't care for it only having 3 brightness choices. It actually has 4 choices. The first one is one that it pics for the surrounding it detects, out of the 3 choices available. Then bright , medium, and low. The bright is way too much, the medium a little too much, and to find the low you have to cover and shade the sight to find it.

I also have 2 -TRS -25's and 2- AT3-RD 50's on three centerfire revolvers, and one 22lr GP 100. They all have a 1-10 brightness setting, that gives better choices for the lighting condition.
