Bullet Nose & Bumping Dies

I have some thoughts about trying to bump .22 rimfire bullets to a slightly larger O.D. and then experiment with bullet nose tips.

The D-Rock dies are out of the question due to health issues involving the owner. The PACO dies look as though they need to be set into the die with a plastic mallet.

The Waltz (sp?) dies look like what I'd like to work with.

At this point I'd like to read some of the thoughts from those of you who have done this sort of thing. TIA

This sticky goes over all 3.

http://www.rimfirecentral.com/rfcftp/pdfs/resizing-project.pdf

takes awhile to load but it is virus free and being a pdf file you can save it to your local pc.

Any ??? let me know. Don't make the "tapping" thing be a deal breaker. Read the whole document.

That thought never crossed my mind. If I was worried about rounds going off during use of any of that tooling, I wouldn't have made, and use, this bullet puller.

I've read what some of the "grim speculators" have posted about using my bullet puller, same as those "chicken little's" say about how the bullet modifying tools will blow the roof off your house. Guess they just don't understand exactly HOW a rimfire primed case must be detonated.

One main reason I was asking for information HERE, was to get some trusted information from RFC members. The inter-web is too fraught with gun experts who are better off sticking to what they do best, "testing toilet bowl cleaners and catheters".

Thanks for all the input folks. Looks like the Waltz die set is no longer available?

Glad this came up...

A short time back I did not fully appreciate the Paco tool since the chambers of my tool were not exactly in line. This caused an inability to make HP's which was my primary reason for purchasing the tool.
Recently after reading "noremf"'s detailed project for the umpteenth time, I resized some Aguila Subsonic 40gr solids to .224 and .225. The results were remarkable for an old Ruger Single Six. It shoots the resized bullets wonderfully, better than I can shoot.
I owe noremf(George), and Paco also an apology. The tool really does work very well. fd

You are forgiven----that's a joke

Get pm's up the wazooo.....tried one ammo, don't work, tried one gun, don't work, tried one size cause that is the spec for .22 lr, don't work, used small sledge hammer to "tap" the nose punch, don't work, dies suck you suck!!!!!!!!!

Glad you experimented cause. "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!"

I use the PACO tool and really like it. I bump up CCI SV to .225 and use a seater stick to press it into the cylinders of my single six and get excellent accuracy from it. Also use the same ammo in my 39a shooting silhouette - microgroove barrels love fat bullets.
Then when I started making black powder .22's I started using it to seat my cast bullets from my Mos' mold. I had a friend turn an arbor for it with a cupped end so I wouldn't get the dimples shown here.

Target rifle likes the old SK MATCH (no longer made) bumped to about 0.224. Those shoot MUCH better than Eley black box in the Kimber.

I use a Waltz. Waltz comes w/ 2 inserts to modify the bullet. One flattens and makes it look like Eley, the other is a hollow pointer.

Im in the process of bumping my last SK Match ammo for that gun.

Anyone know where I can get more??

Google Champion Shooters Supply (they are out of Ohio). I just bought some last Thursday.

Also I also bought a Neil Waltz die in January. As far as I know, he is still in business. Great product. Have no experience with Paco or D rock.

Great idea on the bullet puller. I have a collection of unfired 22rf that I got from my FIL. After he retired he used to go the the local gravel pit firing range on Monday mornings to collect spent brass left by week end shooters. He found a lot of unfired ammo and brought it home because sometimes it would fire in one of our rifles or pistols. This is a great salvage tool for those rounds that wouldn't fire.
Throw the lead in the melting pot, put a drop of oil in the empty case to kill the priming compound and throw the brass in the salvage bucket. I don't know how many 6 gal buckets of empty brass he took to the local metal salvage place but he was able to make a few extra bucks that way. I think I will make one. Thanks for the great idea!!
