Have you tried asking Boyd's? I am interested also.

 

What paint?

I would love to know. It is an epoxy, that is certain, and since they are doing these for production, I would assume they have a texture gun, or some similar setup to achieve the texture you see.

 

not sure what boyds use but if you use alumahyde and a dusting type of method you will get a textured finish.

 

I asked Boyds about that finish a few years back...pretty tight lipped response. It was on the spec. Cuda in more of a splatter...
In my estimation it is a splatter not a texture..small diff. but noticeable.

 

If your going for a textured feel, it doesn't have one. I don't know what they use, but my Kodak(Camera) has paint on it that looks identical.

 

I called Boyd's, the salesman there said it was some kind of epoxy paint that they use, a custom brand that he would not tell me who makes it for them.

 

You might try spyderwebing in the same color as your base color. You should be able to pick up a rattle can of spyderweb at the hobby shop. I can do it for you with DuraCoat. Let me know if you are interested.

Another angle on the paint used on these stocks...

Anyone know of anyone that has stripped the paint off of these stocks?
If the wood looks good underneath it, it might look good stained.

 

Did you ever get anywhere with this? I'd love to know what paint they use..

 

i know it isnt a 10-22 but it is a boyds tacticool. i just left the stock alone other than cleaning it and then laid a base, then vinyl pattern, paint and repeat. used krylon camo..hope this helps

 

A quickie camo job my buddy did with Krylon Fusion Camo. Roughed the tan base with medium scotch brite, cleaned the dust off with PPG DX-330 and shot paint.

Definitely a splatter texture OTB.

 

I think the OP wants to use the Boyd's paint on other projects. Not repaint a Boyd's stock..
