Anyone here at RFC with experience with these two similar stocks?

Love the look of both of them, other than the Evolution being ambidextrous, any info on the difference in these stocks?

Evolution vs. Barracuda

Hookbender,

You asked a good question, regarding the differences between the
Boyds' Evolution 10-22 stock and the Barracuda stock.

To me, the differences are in style, fit and balance.
Style is something that we all have a different eye for. (you like what you like.)
Fit refers to how the stock fits you personally in your most used shooting position. *Does the stock feel most balanced and comfortable to you in the offhand position? Fit also relates to how well your 10-22 barrel , action,
and trigger group fit into the stock. Can you tune the stock for best accuracy?
Balance relates to durability of hold. Does either stock's balance contribute to a steadier, more durable hold for you?

That is the stock you should lean toward. Style considerations should be least
important.

So, go to the range. Ask some shooters who have these 10-22 stocks if you
could shoulder their rifle. Ask if they would offer their opinion of their
own rifle stock? Beleive me, most people are happy to tell you about their
rifle. Find out what fits and works for you best and go with it.

After previously owning a small herd of 10-22 stocks, I found the Boyd's Evolution stock.
It fits and balances beautifully. With the GM 17" Heavy Sporter SS barrel.
the Evolution stock is the one for me. However, we are all built a little differently. See what works for you and keep us posted?

sharpessword,

Wish I could find someone at the range to ask but I've only seen these online.

Saw and held a Raptor at the gun show and my impression was that the length of pull was short and the view high (good for scope view, it was a bare stock)

I do like the look of the Barracuda, that does not address any of the more important aspects you pointed out. Do you have a Barracuda and like the Evolution better because...?

I was hoping some RFC member reading the forum could offer an opinion after using both of them, anyone?

I have both and prefer the Barracuda. As to the differences, primarily the thumbhole style on the Barracuda and to me, a bigger difference is the flat forearm of the Cuda which I find much superior for bench shooting. Either is excellent for off-hand.

EVO vs CUDA...

I would go the other way based on our use... I too have owned both Cuda's and Evo's... the Cuda's have all been sold and I currently own six Evo's... but we are primarily hunters... with an emphasis on off hand shooting... our bench shooting is mostly off bipods, not bags, so the flat forearm of the Cuda is a moot point. I would say if you tend toward mobile shooting, go with the SS Evolution... If you tend toward bench shooting (and you will not be mounting a bipod) the go with the Baracuda... if you will be mounting a bipod go with the EVO. :bthumb:

I've not shot or owned the evo but I do own the cuda. I primarily shoot off hand at small varmints and routinely pack it into the woods with me. The flat bottom of the fore grip makes for a nice positive feel. While the short throw makes it easy to acquire my target thru my red dot. From the sounds of it I don't think that you could go wrong with either stock.
