118 year old Iver Johnson owl head breathed Fite and smoke again Friday morning. I pulled bullets from smokeless rounds. And loaded by hand some Pyrodex loads. (Not a reloader)
But I made a crimp tool from R6 crimper.
Reused bullets which I did have RCBS puller.

Shot really high one round just off target. But would have took out perp.
Recovered 4 out of 5 rounds.at my rubber backstop.

For those that have these old Owl Head revolvers ,Iver Johnson did not warrant smokeless until 3rd model 1910.

Quick identifiers for smokeless are:
Owl faces down
Cylinder has locking notches
Four pin trigger guard
Short cylinder flutes
Coil mainspring

The revolver above is 2nd Model 1906 made ,notice Owl faces forward, long flutes,NO cylinder lock notches.Has flat mainspring.

DO NOT FIRE smokeless ammo in these !!

I didn't realize how difficult it was to buy real black powder . Haz Mat has stopped all but a few from carrying it.

Anything over 50 lbs requires liscense and storage magazine IIRC .

HAZ MAT fee is as much as powder to order .Most places only sell in full cases of 25lbs or 5 lbs min.

Powder Valley and Back Creek gun shop sell by pound and ship . $26-$27 per lb .

Got the beast home today. Some cosmetic marks, but basically a VERY tight gun. Lockup is solid, barrel swivel perfect. Doesn't look fired much, but there was guck in the grooves and some marking from someone trying to clean with the cylinder in place.

Second Model, First Variation, built 1902, according to the Goforth book. I'll forgive the nickel flaking on the harder edges :)

Fwiw, Ive had very good luck using a snug fitting round ball (snug to the fully fire-formed case mouth so no resizing needed) over a full to base of ball Black Powder. Lighter bullet, less muzzle rise, lower pressures, all good.
