At the urging of InfamousJ I have gotten back to work on a build I started about a year ago. I will post some pictures below of its first iteration and how it looks today.

I will post some targets that I shot, but haven't yet scanned them in (heck I haven't even measured them all yet).

FIRST ITERATION OF BLACK BEAUTY - August 2012

Original build specifics:

Stock: The stock was built by Dave Allen.
Bolt: Polished Ruger Talo
Receiver: Ruger - polished by outlinkk
Charging Handle: Force
Trigger Group: Ruger - polished and worked by outlinkk
Barrel: AR7 - also polished by outlinkk
Compensator: Alumalite USA
Rings: Weaver Quad Lock
Scope: Kahles Helia 3-10x50mm

In this configuration I had to really work at it to shoot any better than 3/4" at 50, and even then it didn't seem to be consistent. I read alot about the AR7 barrels and was not overly impressed. When InfamousJ inquired about it recently, I looked through my parts pile and found a polished 18" Shilen barrel and a Mueller 8-32X Target that I thought might help me in the accuracy department.

Shot some targets yesterday - not earth-shattering but I did shoot a .298" four group average at 50 with SK Pistol Match ammo (will post targets later).
BLACK BEAUTY as built on 8/2/13.

Gotta Chuckle on that one, I sure hope someday, I have a "Parts Pile" that is so deep I have to rumage through it to find a Shilen and Mueller lying deep within!

What a great looking rifle, nice job!

ScottC -:eek: I know that it sounds really bad, but I buy things that are good deals, and often times I "rat-hole" them away awaiting a build to use them. It seems as though I have a propensity of forgetting that they are there, and thus can be "surprised" when I come back across them.

I built this rifle:

completely from "spare" parts (except the receiver, but I do have a few extra receivers in the drawer, too). I also pick up scopes whenever I can, and I am really embarrassed as to how many I counted on the shelf last week. The Mueller on Black Beauty is a Mueller Target Model 8-32X that I had previously loaned to DrGunner and to rokehe, so they could get a first-hand experience with it before deciding to purchase one themselves.:bthumb:

I admit, my wife may be right - I may have a bit of a "problem" with parts envy!!!:eek:

Don't ask how many barrels, stocks and trigger assemblies are laying around here!:eek:

Sometimes you buy a gun with some parts that you don't want - so they go into the "bone-pile" until such time as you "need" them, you know?

WOW!!!! I sound just like I did when I was trying to explain to my Mom why I had done something I shouldn't have - oh the guilt!!!;);)

All for now - I must go see my therapist.:D

John,

I'd be more than happy to help you get back into the better half's good graces. ;)
You can just send a couple of those receivers, barrels, etc. out to Arizona. :AR15firin:AR15firin:AR15firin

Well John,

Here is what I highly suspect:

If you're going to a shrink,

He's a closet RFC'er who visits secretly (and often) under a highly guarded screen name and HE is paying you some high $$'s for 50 minutes a week of 10/22 talk! :D

John. There is no need to put your relationship with your wife or other family members. I have plenty of cool dry spots to store whatever is a tripping hazard and deemed excessive. :bthumb: amazing the gun you built from Xtra parts laying around is very close to the Ultimate I'm wkn on.
