Best magazine loader?

Hi - I just built a new Nodak/Mist 10/22 and got a bunch of BX-25's. I forgot how much loading them hurts after the first one. Have the loaders gotten any better since I pitched a Butler Creek version in the trash many moons ago? What's recommended?

Maybe someone else here knows but I don't know jack about 10/22 , I'm a 597 man myself that's why I told you to ask the company. Now this is only my opinion has I have said I know almost nothing about 10/22 but I would think the stock mag would work in the aftermarket mag adapter has both mags work in the same rifle ( same system) . I could be wrong.

PGT, over the years, there have been several different 10/22 magazine loaders for use with hi capacity mags for the 10/22 that have appeared on the market. They're all fairly similar in design and operation, and unfortunately, the one thing that they have in common is that none of them really work very well. All of the ones that I've seen (and bought) tend to be pretty prone to jamming as the rounds are lined up to drop into the feed mechanism of the loader. When that happens, all of the ammo has to be removed from the loader and you start over again.

I keep hoping that some unsung genius will someday come up with a more or less foolproof system for loading 10/22 high capacity magazines, but so far I haven't seen one. Admittedly, for the last few years I haven't been looking very hard. Little_airwolf seems to be in favor of the Lightning loader, and I haven't tried one of those, so it might work pretty well. But the ones that I'm familiar with are all pretty finicky and jam frequently when you try to use them.

The lightning grip loader works great with the BX25 mags, it doesn't work with the rotary magazines due to the weird torsional forces created by the rotary mechanism.

I would take a lightning grip loader over any of the others hands down. Only the old ramline loader ever came close in speed and efficiency, and it's been out of production since the 90's.

The Butler Creek loader I have does work on the BX-25 first run and second mod versions. Of course it works smoother on my Butler Creek hotlips from 1999 still.

I had a go around with several batches of bx-25 mags that lost their spring tension or needed the fired shell/trimmed insert to get the round pointing upward. One I actually dremel shaped the angle of the plastic ramrod to put the rounds at a steeper angle to the feed lips.

So I guess the true answer is your mileage may vary depending on why ruger has disingenuously omitted to put a part number on their BX-25 mag revisions. I guess if they marked on mark 1 and the second run mark 2, everyone would scramble and complain to get a mark 2 even though their mark 1 mag still work ok?

I got my McFadden Lightnin' Grip loader today, and here's my thoughts. It works on everything I have EXCEPT the BX-25 magazine. If you look at the lips on the BX magazine, its shaped differently than all the other high cap mags. I even tried loading the first cartridge by hand, but no luck. The direction the loader positions the cartridge to enter the magazine lip doesn't match the BX magazine.

Here are the mags I have that the loader does work with, and works perfectly.
Ram Line 30
Champion 30
Butler Creek plastic lip 25
HC3R 25
Tactical Innovations 25

Once you figure out the loader(it comes with well written instructions), it will load a magazine as fast as you can pull its trigger. I loaded up about 200 rounds in various mags, and its quick and easy. I do have a bit of soreness on my trigger finger, as the loaders trigger isn't shaped as I would like, but I found that using the second pad of my finger, or my middle finger and switching between those different points on my fingers helps.

This loader works so much better that my old Butler Creek loader. The Butler Creek loader works, but was quirky, and took some finesse to get it to work easily. The McFadden Lightnin' Grip Loader is a winner for anything but the BX magazines.

Just this Saturday, I used my Champion loader with Ruger BX-25 magazines. BTW.....IIRC you have to buy the correct Champion loader, as they are made in two versions (for BX-25 or Butler Creek mags).

The loader did NOT function flawlessly. I had several occasions when the mag would pop out. That was due to double feeding cartridges. The simple fix was to drop the mag, clear the offending rounds, and start again. At first I thought that I had broken a retainer (plastic part) responsible for holding the magazine in place. But, that wasn't the problem.

HINTS: hold the loader's cartridge fill magazine, vertical. The BX-25 magazine will be, horizontal. The twisting knob will be at the bottom. Turn it only one way. Never twist in the other direction.

Too bad that an arrow wasn't painted on the plastic parts to indicate which direction to turn or which way is forward. Though, I guess you could do it yourself with a marking pen.

All in all....it's still faster than doing it with your fingers. So.....I'd recommend buying it.

Aloha, Mark

How about a CHRISTIES BX- 25 ?????????

I just ordered a Christies BX-25 loader and sure hope it works OK for me.
My poor thumb is RAW from loading the BX-25 magazines.
It was $9.95 plus $6.00 shipping so I won't be out much. It is said to be only used for the Ruger BX-25 magazines only.
I'll do a review after I get it .
Ronnie

PS:
I ordered it from ::::

Looking for a loader for rimfire mags I was looking at videos of the Lightnin Grip Loader. It looks to me like the loader is using pressure on the front edge of the bullet itself to force the rounds into the mag. Is the loader deforming the tip of the bullet? Is anyone seeing a change in accuracy? If shooting your 10/22 for accuracy would you avoid loading your mags with this loader?

Caldwell sent me theirs to review. You can read about it here. It works better than my Butler Creek ever did....
I've had two Caldwells in the last year and they both sucked. Left them on the bench at the range.
Others tried them and left them where they found 'em.
I've had two Butler Creeks in the last thirty years. Finally wore out the first and bought the second to replace the Caldwells.
