Barrel Length

Rimsolo,
You will NOT loose much velocity by using a 16" barrel.
16 to 18 inches is ideal length for maximum 22LR velocity.
The length does NOT make any difference in accuracy.

You may also consider a tapered sporter barrel if
you are concerned about weight.

I prefer longer barrels myself.

My 10/22 has an original 22" barrel.
I kept it rather than swap for something else.
My Winchester model 67 has a 27" barrel.

Let us know what you decide.
There is a BIG selection out there.

Best bull barrel length

I like most all the lengths that I have tried. My favorite is the 18 inch only because I am most used to using that one for most everything. The longer bull barels are heavy but just the ticket for bench rest shooting. for quick and accurate stand up shooting I prefer the shorter 16 inch carbon fiber barrels. Take a look at the type of shooting you are going to be doing the most of and then make your judgement.:bthumb:

Hee, hee, Randy thinks 19" is the optimal length for the 10/22 based on the best appearance of rifle balance. We had a long discussion about it a couple of years ago. 20" and more looks muzzle heavy; 18" and below kinda stubby to him. :D

He also prefers to trim the end of the Ruger "T" barrels to produce a slight choke in the barrel. Only hammer forged barrels will do that.

My 16.5" works quite well, especially when walking through Sagebrush hunting jacks. CCI Stingers still "open" up quite well.

I had my factory barrel cut and threaded, and have been quite pleased.
With a folding stock, it rides behind the seat of my truck just fine.

If you suppress it, you will still need to use subsonic rounds though.

Oops, sorry....I did not read carefully enough...you asked about Bull Barrels....I admit it, I am a plinker, not a shooter, I have no bull barrels.
