would you guys consider the Savage 93R17GV a good rifle to get for accuracy or is there a better one? im limited so no $500+ rifles.

The thing about Savage rimfires is as long as you get the heavy barrel the rest doesn't make much of a difference. The actions and the barrels are all the same for the most part. If your a fan of hard wood stocks get the GV series, fan of laminate get the BV series, fan of tacticool looks get the TR series, fan of synth stocks get the FV series. :bthumb: None of them are factory bedded and all share the same free floated barrel idea.

EDIT: as long as you stay away from walmart guns. Some of those are done without the accutrigger or bases or other odd stuff.

Which Hummer...

If you just want to open the gun box and go shooting, get the CZ 452 (if you can find one) 455 if you can't...

If you want to get a gun and mod it and customize it to your taste, get the Savage 93R17...

These below started as Savage 93R17 FVSS models, then we customized them... they are very accurate;

I have the Savage BTVS and its more accurate than I'll ever be. I have a CZ .22lr that is hands down a more accurate rifle given its caliber and ammo ballistics. I really, really like the CZ but went for the Savage in 17HMR due to the stock choice. I doubt you could go wrong with the Savage or CZ as the .17HMR round is just so darn accurate. I think it comes down to what fits you best and the trigger, and both rifles have very nice triggers.

Savage for the win for sure you can rememdy a crappy stock fixing poor accuracy is a whole different ballpark and money bracket lol. I have a Remington 10/22, Marlin 70pp & 60, and 3 Savages 2 MK2's and the 93 if that says anything. The Savages out shoot them all with the dark horse the Papoose coming in next, followed by the model 60 & 10/22 shooting about the same.

17 hmr

I have a Savage stainless laminate 17 HMR but have never been able to get good groups out of it. Finally found it shot best with 20 gr. XTP. Accuracy is now OK. Also purchased a Marlin in 17 HMR not expecting much. I found it is an extremely accurate rifle. I did the BIC pen spring trick and it is even better.

If I had to do it over again I would just buy the cooper Jackson squirrel in 17 hmr. They are awesome. But for under 500 you can get the cz. I have one, it is picky on ammo if you want to ragged hole at 50 with 5. My savage and three others I have shot will not do that with the 8 different ammo I tested. Close, but not quite. Many people say they do, I just have not seen it.

I have seen a factory Ruger shoot pretty good with hornady ammo. But I have only shot 6 different 17 cal rifles on a bench with bags. So not a lot of experience. When I first started shooting, I liked the accutriger. Now, with a new trigger in my cz it is less appealing.

I vote for any of the CZ's. Never seen one that didn't shoot very well. Looks and style and accurate as all get out.

I have a Cz in 17 hmr. It is stunningly accurate and was $350. My son has a Marlin 917v that used to be the most accurate rimfire I ever shot. The CZ wins. Either is so accurate that it really doesn't make a difference on game.

The Savages do seem to have good reviews and I would pick them over the Marlin based on the trigger alone.

I have a CZ 452 Varmint thumbhole and a CZ 452 Silh with black synthetic stock and a 16" as advertised (17" actual) threaded barrel. I also have a Browning T-Bolt Synthetic.
I have glass bedded the Varmint and done the PMTJ on both CZs. Otherwise the triggers are terrible. Browning is bone stock with an awesome trigger (4.5 lbs min - advertised as 3.5 lbs).
The browning is the lightest and best handling of them all. It goes ito the woods with me. Its 10-round magazine is incredible. An extra one fits in the stock. I load one with Hornady 17 gr and the other with 20 gr HP - when in the woods.
The CZ varmint is the heaviest and most accurate but by just a hair over the T-Bolt.
All were under $500. I bought the Browning for $425 - brand new.

My Henry H001V is the worst shooting .17hmr I've come across and it easily shoots 1.5 inch groups at 100 yards which is more than good enough for most vermin and varmints out to 150 or so yards. The round is inherently accurate and few are the rifles that will not shoot it pretty well.

I have a pre-accutrigger 93r17FV and a 93r17BRJ with accutrigger and a CZ 452 Varmint all in .17 cal. The CZ is more accurate than both Savages. Having said that, they are all very accurate. The bottom line in my case is the trigger. I did the Poor Man's Trigger Job on the CZ. The trigger went from average to excellent with zero creep. When I shoot the accutrigger on my savage BRJ right after the CZ, I can tell a huge difference in creep. The accutrigger is way better than the pre-accutrigger, but still has too much creep in my experience. I'm sure someone can link an accutrigger creep removal link. I haven't looked into that yet, but will.
