Bergara B14R , my 2 cents.

After shooting my B14R for a year, I have to say that I have enjoyed many hours tinkering, upgrading and shooting it.
I haven’t kept an accurate count on rounds fired but guess about 4000. After that many rounds of target velocity European ammo, it’s almost annoying to fire high velocity stuff. The 1080 FPS stuff is just fun to shoot. Very quiet and relaxing.
I originally bought the rifle to be able to shoot with my friends on a 100 yard benchrest range. I have a variety of centerfire rifles but reloading precision ammo got to be time consuming. I was doing about 40 rounds of .308 and about 60 rounds of .223 3 times a month. I work full time, mow 5 acres and have Grand kids in 2 states. I’m sure some of you can relate.
I have use of a private range 4 miles from the house that my friend kindly lets me use. I have shot everywhere from 35 to 275 yards with the Bergara. The wind is always an issue. The backstop is on the east side of property. So 7-12 mph cross wind is normal. When I see 2-4 mph on the phone app. I start getting antsy. Wife looks at me and says better get going.
I am sure this gun has improved my shooting abilities at least from a target range perspective. I shoot prone 90 % of the time now.
The gun is more accurate than I am, I am going to have to upgrade the trigger before long, as it is the least precise part of the gun and getting precision results will wear you out over a 50 to 100 round session.

My setup is a B14R steel, Leupold Vari X III 4.5 x 14, AO, target turrets with Mil dot reticle. I run turrets so Mil dot is just decorative for me. The rail is a 20MOA Leupold and scope is mounted in Vorex rings. I use a harris 6”-9” swivel bipod and some version of a sand bag or rear bag. The only other add on is a cheap ported muzzle device that I bought on eBay. I wanted the barrel a little longer and it was all I could find with the matte finish and same diameter as barrel.

Performance wise the gun has been accurate enough to keep my attention with no thoughts of any changes other than a better trigger. My scope adjustment was ok to about 250 yards before the 20 MOA rail now I think 325 is realistic, that is as far as scope adjustment goes.
I have pretty much settled on 100 yards as my standard shooting distance. With Center-X I was getting 10 shot groups right at an 1” at 100 yards. GECO Semi Auto Was more like 1.25”. My gun has done its best with Eley Edge, Match and 10x. But haven’t found my deals on it lately. I max out at $10 a box so most of my Eley purchases have been second hand stuff.
I recently went to shooting 3 shot groups at 100, I shot 5 groups on 1” orange target dots on a sheet of copy paper. It’s cheaper than 10 shot groups and occasionally if the planets seem aligned I do 5 shot groups.

I get varied groups and the point of impact changes with ammo, wind and how I hold gun. I have had groups every where from .5” to 1.5” in 5 groups at one time . I attribute this to Me, trigger quality, and wind. Occasionally I get bragging groups and sometimes after 2 rounds things are so spread out and I move to the next target. LOL
I don’t acclimate between ammo brands and the first group is usually the largest of the batch.
I know the magazine looks obnoxious, but it’s really pretty handy in practical use, easy to get in and out of gun. Loads easy, works fine, easy to field strip and blow trash out of it. Recently the mosquitoes have been bad out on my friends range and I have been wearing the thin net style hunting gloves, not as easy but no problem loading these magazines. The face mask is challenging though!!
I am a Left hand shooter and had hoped for a LH model. Now they are available I am wondering if it’s worth it to change guns. It’s a 12 pound rig , shot bench or prone. I run it right handed , I can see if the magazine still has rounds in it. So not a lot to gain for me.
As a side note. when the new BMR comes out, I will buy the first LH that comes available. 🤞 anybody listening??

2 things I don’t care for on B14 , trigger needs to be better for its intended uses. And the Match chamber won’t always let me eject loaded rounds. I am sure it aids accuracy but feel a cleaning rod is a must have at all times.
All in all the rifle is a winner in my book, serves its purpose, shoots plenty accurate for my skills, I have never felt it was holding me back accuracy wise. But it think I could improve slightly with a crisp , creep free 1 pound trigger.

Don’t know why picture is upside down.

Yes the Bergara b14r will get you hooked. It's a great shooting rimfire but is lacking on a good factory trigger as I have thought many times. Might have to try one of the many aftermarket triggers made for the Remington 700. I have read that the Bergara will not have the same pull as advertised when installed in the Bergara because of the strong firing pin spring. Can anyone advise of a good trigger to adapt to the b14r that will get it to 1# or less?

My B14-R has proven to be quite the shooter. It has a NF 4-32 ffp scope in Seekins rings on a Bergara 20 moa rail. I shoot it suppressed all the time with a AB Suppressor little bird. The best thing I did was to install a Trigger Tech primary trigger. You can only get the pull weight down to 1 1/2 lbs. The biggest difference is no creep and a very crisp break. I only have 50 yards here at my home range, but it does very well with most any European ammo. I would say usually around 1 moa or a little better if I'm on my game. :Blasting_

Thank you very much. That upside down photo was a pain.

Went shooting this morning, shot about 120 rounds of SK Standard Plus at 100 yards. The wind was about 3 mph, heavy dew, and 75 to 82 degrees.
Had some excellent groups and some terrible groups. I didn’t have any wind flags out because I figured with that little wind I didn’t need them.
I was shooting prone from the pickup bed, using bipod and my new Tab rear bag. Got downright hot. But no mosquitos today.
I am struggling with consistency. I was doing 3 shot groups. So ballpark about 40 groups. Of those I shoot some 2 times and moved on and some I shot 5 just because.

I had 2 targets one with 6 groups, one with 5. All 3 shot groups. Best overall average groups of the day per target. The 6 groups average was .552” and the 5 group sheet averaged .671”. Yes this is the best 2 sheets of targets of the day. And they were measured CTC style. I had one group go .158” today and 2 groups go over 2.00” so like I said having trouble with consistency. The rest fell between that.
Gonna check all the scope mounting screws before the next trip out and hopefully the Jewell trigger will be here by then too.

Can post target photos, if someone wants to see them.

Time for a shower and Sunday afternoon nap.

What brand muzzle brake is that? Have you tested the rifle with/without it? I have read both good and bad things about adding one to these rifles. On the fence about adding one myself.

FWIW, I'm shooting a B14R carbon (no brake) and it is shooting bug holes once I got the factory trigger adjusted to my liking.

Glad to hear you are enjoying it. I picked up a carbon fiber barreled action locally a couple months ago and have gradually been getting it dialed in. I'm shooting a prone match this Saturday and spent the morning at the range working up my adjustments for the different distances out to 100 yds. The rifle shot wonderfully. I'm running a Trigger Tech Diamond in mine and it's sitting at about 8 oz. Perfect break. I've become a very big fan of this trigger. Super easy drop in and you can adjust it without pulling it out of the stock. I hope your Jewell provides an equally pleasurable experience.

:bthumb: Good to hear about the TT Diamond. Are you running the single our two-stage? If/when I get a B14R or Three 60 I've decided I'd likely invest in the Diamond single-stage

Pat - I've got the TT Diamond S/S Pro Curve in my V22R & the Jewell HVR (with the heavy spring) in my B14R.

Both are excellent triggers. The blade on the TT is a little wider than the Jewell if that's a factor. I currently have the TT at 16 oz & the Jewell at 10 oz - I don't really need them lower but there is plenty of adjustment left in both.

Here's 125 shots of SK Long Range & Pistol Match Special shot from a clean, cold bore this morning by my wife with the B14R. There are 2 lot numbers of each ammo in there, it was windy and overcast and there's a couple of scope adjustments in there as well. The big circles are .862" dia. We have 2,600 through the B14R now - Simply faultless:bthumb: Only a handful through the Vudoo but it also appears to run perfectly and I think the Bartlein may turn into one of the best performers I've owned to date.

Cheers,
Allan.

The brake in my picture was an eBay purchase, it fit the diameter, finish and length I was looking for. It was a cheap fix for the barrel being so short looking. I would have preferred something without porting but it’s not a big deal. It was bought by rays~surplus in warren, Michigan off eBay. It looks like they still have some. Cost is about $25 shipped.
Will put specs on listed dimensions below.

I've only had mine a week or so but I love it and certainly have no regrets with the carbon option despite somr folks claiming the steel barrel is better. ( It will be used for competition AND general shooting so I like the lighter weight. ) Hard to imagine it could be much better (in my hands) as mine will shoot bug hole groups at 50 with CCI standard (of all things) when i do my part. Getting ready to run some better match ammo through it at 100 yds this week. Factory trigger is now set at 1# 12 oz so I'm optimistic it will shoot even tighter.

Happy to report that I got the new Jewell trigger installed Wednesday after work and went and shot. The instal was 5 minutes after I found my tools. I shot it at 1 pound , last night I shot it at 10 ounces, and today I set it at 8 ounces. Dry fired on empty brass for a while. No safety issues.
Wind is 15 mph and there’s a heat advisory so no shooting today.
The trigger is excellent and with a spring change, 2 extra included with trigger, it can be as low as 1.5 oz or as high as 48 oz.. Factory installed spring is 8 to 48 ounces.
Picture shows weight adjustment screw. All trigger adjustments sear engagement, over travel and weight are adjustable with gun assembled.

That’s unfortunate gr8guns, I haven’t shot many .22 bolt guns before the Bergaras, but I seems it’s not just Bergara. I get little hang ups from time to time, but not enough to be a problem.
I think .22 LR guns just have more function problems than centerfire, they are dirtier, low powered and many get shot a bunch of rounds.
I cannot think of any of them that hasn’t had a hang up. Some of it is ammo related on the semi autos. But I see it in almost all of them at some point, even the very popular ones. And about every variety of action style.
Heck I even had a Glock 19 that had a hang up in every box of ammo.
Even some of the highly praised 700 Remingtons have ejection problems.
I haven’t seen anything to make me want to sell my B14R yet, it’s the most used thing in my safe.
