Beretta 87 Cheetah or 70s or Bersa Thunder?

Pleae help me choose my next pistol. I have one more NJ permit to burn (get them in maximum quantaties of 3). I have already bought a Mauser HSc and a Beretta 70s, both in .380. Love the Mauser and the Beretta should arrive tomorrow and I anticipate that I will love that one too. But I want something not too large in a 22lr and have narrowed it down to the listed few. I also found a Walther P22 in carbon fiber that is kind of cool but I really strongly prefer non plastic guns. Plus from my research I gather the Walther is not as accurate as the others. So, I know the Bersa is pretty cheap but they seem to be well liked if you use the right ammo. So, leaning towards the 2 Berettas. I know the Cheetah is a bit pricey but I will go for it if I get some good feedback from this group. Anyone here own the 87 or the 70s? What do you think? Thanks!

I've owned a Beretta Model 87, and can tell you that I wish the circumstances at the time didn't force me to sell it, since I was unable to find another like it before I retired & went on a fixed income.

The Model 87 made an excellent trail gun, not to mention it was very accurate to boot.
I recommend it highly.

There's no comparison, vs a Bersa - fahgettaboutit.

i got one of the Beretta 87s many years ago. its a great shooter and when i was shooting it, it never had a malf even with all of the various cheap bulk ammo i was using. mags can be spendy tho. its spending alot of time in the safe now.

i know they gone up in price but i would get another one.

I believe I am seeing a trend here. After seeing Gerald's it makes me wonder how anyone can live with one of the new plastic creations. Gerald, you always amaze me with the guns in your collection. That thing just oozes old world class and refinement! I have a note into Bud's for a price. I think I saw a price on-line of $676 (list is about $845 these days). If anyone has one they want to sell please speak up. Thanks for all the input!

I own both the Bersa T-22 and the Beretta Cheetah,,,

I like and shoot both of them quite a lot.

One is a $700.00 pistol and the other is a $265.00 pistol.

The Bersa is like driving a Chevy Impala,,,
The Beretta is like driving a Jaguar.

They both get the job done very nicely,,,
The Beretta does it with a bit more style and panache.

Functionally though,,,
And I know I'll catch some flak for saying this,,,
My Bersa performs just as nicely in all aspects as does my Beretta.

About the only difference is the Beretta is 1/4" longer and is way prettier.

P.S. Several people pointed out that the guns in the picture are not .22 LR pistols.

I own a Beretta 87 and an 85 as well as a Thunder 22 and a Thunder 380.

Since the .22 and .380 versions of the guns are identical,,,
I saw no harm in using this picture I already had.

I apologize if I inadvertently confused anyone.

I just pulled the trigger on a GB auction for a Beretta 87 Cheetah! Thank you all for excellent enabling. Will provide pics when I get it and the Mauser HSC and the Beretta 70s .380 ACP. I think I am in handgun heaven at this point and will likely not buy any others but don't quote me. Also, a specail thanks to Timberbeast as he has guided me on a couple of my handgun purchases including my CZ 75B, which is an excellent 9mm.

As far as looks, Idk because a nickel Bersa looks pretty good with dark wood grips instead of those regular plastic ones. Performance wise, I'd imagine the more expensive Beretta is superior, but hear good things about Bersa and it's extremely affordable, so that's the way I personally is going. That being said, I don't have any restrictions on how many guns I can get and have many .22s on my short list along with the Bersa, so if I had to narrow it down, picking from your list, I'd side with the Beretta as well.

I think you made the right choice, because the Beretta is a fine firearm. But Bersas are not too shabby, especially for what they cost. I bought a matte black Firestorm .22 (Bersa variant) as a fun gun, and I liked it so much that I bought a nickel-finish Thunder .22 to keep it company. I paid less for the two than one Beretta 87 would have cost. They both shoot great and are a ton of fun.

I know that the Beretta is in a whole different league, but I just wanted to stick up for the humble Bersa. :bthumb:

About the image in post #10,,,

Several people PM-ed me and pointed out that the guns in the pics are not .22 LR pistols,,,
They are correct in that the guns pictured are the Bersa Thunder 380 and the Beretta Model 85BB also in .380.

I own a Beretta 87 and an 85 as well as a Thunder 22 and a Thunder 380.

Since the .22 and .380 versions of the guns are identical,,,
I saw no harm in using this picture I already had.

They are the factory magazines with the screw removed which allows 11 rounds, I've had no problem with them but someone here chastised me for it saying it would give problems. So far none but I do normally only load them with 10 rounds.
