Ok, looking to start on a Light weight offhand/some bench gun, But want to be able to use Hi-cap magizines. I See where barrels with Bentz chamber dont really like these (hicaps) but, that Tac sol. barrels use sporter chambers, so tis is a doable thing i believe..

Now, the question i have is, "is there a loss of accuracy with a sporter chamber barrel as those from Tac sol, VS barrels such as whistle pig with a bentz chamber?

Thanks in advance for the answers..

I baught a WP and it has a bentz chamber, I also baught a shooters ridge 25 rd mag for it. I am also shooting 17hm2's out of it and I have not had any problems with feeding. I've put 150 rounds through it and it its jammed maby 3-4 times right in the begining. I think that may just be due to my factory extractor, or how the 17hm2's were loaded. They seem to be touchy on how you put them in the clip. I've emptied half a mag into two coons now(one last night:) and it hasn't jammed.....oh yea its real accurate too.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner....kindof forgot about posting here. Well everything is still shooting fine. Very accurate, nickle size groups at 5 yards with a 4 power scope just sitting on a bench. At 30 yards where I can see what I aiming at the holes always touch/overlap in 3 shot groups. I just put a new extractor in an racked off a bunch of rounds today and nothing jammed. So yea, from my experience dont worry about getting a bentz chamber and using ahi-cap mag with the 17hm2.(CCI's for ammo, a little hornady too) Shot another coon with it and put it EXACTLY where I was aiming, thats how I really measure success with a gun.

Well it must be! He's getting nickle sized groups at 5 yards and dime sized groups at 30 yards!

Wait... none of that makes ANY sense. :p

Tich, you do realize that shooting anything other than .22LR in a .22LR barrel is unbelievably dangerous don't you?

yea did some talkin and found out I thought a bentz chamber was a standard or type for differnt rimfire rounds, not a standard for only 22lr. Don't know where I went worng...but I took a way wrong turn on that one. Sorry for confusion...lol some of you guys musta really been goin ***.

Now I am REALLY confused  :shakehead Do you or do you not shoot 17m2 rounds in a barrel cambered for 22 long rifle. If so I thik it is unlikely to hurt anything but you can't possibly get good accuracy with it. What do you call good accuracy at, say, 25 or 50 yards? What kind of groups do you get.

Now I want you to try something for me to help both you and I to understand. Take a 17m2 round in your hand and in the other hand the MUZZLE of your rifle. The rifle IS unloaded of course RIGHT? Now stick just the bullet into the end of the barrel, not leting the case touch it. See how you can move it around? Quite a bit of "play " there don't you think? Try the same thing with a 22. No play huh? THAT is how a bullet is supposed to fit a barrel. There should be NO play. If you insost on comntinuing to shoot 17M2 in that barrel you may have some problems like damaged rifling and such. Also you are fireforming every 17m2 case you do that to. You may get some blown cases along the way. PLEASE WEAR YOUR SHOOTING GLASSES WHEN YOU SHOOT THIS THING.

Lets try this.

Tich, do you have a 17HM2 gun and barrel in which you are shooting 17HM2 ammo? OR, do you have a 22LR gun and barrel in which you are are shooting 17HM2 ammunition ? I suppect that you have a 17HM2 gun and someone told you that it shoots so well because it has a Bentz chamber. If that is the case then that "someone" does not know a Bentz chamber from a hole in the ground.

Please clear this up before you get a bad rap that isn't your fault.

Good luck.

hmmm, I musta read/typed somthin wrong...all I know is I dont know much about chambers but I must have been told some wrong information. All I know is mine shoots awesome with my Hi-Cap mag in 17hm2.
It is not surprising that you can shoot high capacity magazines without problem since the 17HM2 is a necked down cartridge with a jacketed bullet. This makes it much easier to feed than a 22 which has a more or less cylindrical cartridge with a lead bullet. The chamber mouth is almost the same size as the bullet with a 22, while it is like a funnel for a 17 HM2.

choices...

By now Zar should have made up his mind. If he wants to blast away with a Hi Cap mag from a benchrest or offhand then he should stay with a sporter chamber. If he really wants to inprove accuracy, he should go with a bentz chamber, learn to shoot and not bother with Hi Cap magazines. Does anyone disagree?

Yup, mind made up. Sport's chambers and Big mags really dont have a place if your going for accuracy. You go with one, you have to sacrifice something else.

Guess if i want both ill have to build More then 1 gun :D

Thanks for the disease, Ack i mean help guys.
