Bartlein barrels are one of the very best available, and hugely popular among benchrest, F-Class, High Power, and other competitive shooters. If you look at most equipment lists of the top scoring competitors at most national level competitions, probably 50-75% are using Bartlein barrels. If I felt the need for that level of accuracy potential in a 10/22, I wouldn't hesitate to but a Bartlein barrel. Or a Lilja or Krieger barrel, for that matter.

 

Would love to see them compared to Lilja, Kidd, Feddersen etc... in the 10/22 platform (50 and 100 yard groups). Hopefully someone with lots of money buys one. With major pandemic was still doing 10/22 product reviews

Mostly Shilen & Muller. Not a single Bartlein or Krieger, only a few Liljas.

I believe Joe Chacon favors Shilen on his Custom 10/22's. The article also includes input from Tony Kidd and Randy Steel of CPC.

Cut rifled barrels dont do well in rimfire it's been tried and failed. If they were superior in any way everyone would use them. So they dont stack up well against shilen, Muller , broughton , or even lilja barrels. By far the most popular in rimfire are shilen and muller.

 

I agree in RFBR there are few cut barrels.

Vudoo Gunworks is getting great results with their in-house cut rifled barrels. I believe they finish them in-house. They are launching a BR action, i wonder if they will pair it with their cut rifled barrel or go with button rifled. As I understand, they are fitting the new BR rifles with a true Flavio Fare Trigger. Should be interesting.

 

Okay, I stand corrected. My exposure to serious rimfire accuracy began pretty recently, and I guess I never even thought about cut-rifled barrels not working well with rimfire ammo. Guess today wasn't a total loss, because I did learn something!

 

The equipment list is always an interesting perspective, but not always indicative of what works best. Equipment lists are based on choices and in BR, those choices are generally fueled by "conventional wisdom." I've spoken to a lot of BR shooters lately, and very few of them can speak to why they use what they use with actual data. One honest guy answered a number of my questions with, "I don't know."

The argument in BR is, "cut rifled barrels don't work for rimfire." This is purely not true and there's actual data that says so. Slugging, taper lapping, most of the other hokus pokus just isn't "required" as much as it's worshipped as "the way."

Joe Chacon likes Douglas and Shilen rifled blanks. He does a great job. I have a Douglas barrel gun he did. My most accurate 10/22.
