I am thinking of relining the barrel of of one of my rifles. Has anybody done this and were you satisfied with the results? And do you have a gunsmith you would recommend.

Thanks

I had a BRNO model 1 relined with a Redman liner from Brownell's. It was much improved and shot good 50 yard 5 shot groups. Good hunting accuracy for sure but a nice original model 1 that I also owned would shoot better. The gunsmith that did the work is no longer doing relines.
I was satisfied with the work. I am sure it would cost a few hundred bucks to get the work done so that has to be considered against the rifles worth.

I have done it. It can restore a poor shooter to a good shooter, but don't expect the gun to shoot like a hand lapped precision bench rest rifle barrel. My efforts are documented here: A 40X reline adventure. The rifle shot good groups, but I screwed up the chamber when I cut it (I am a rank amateur when it comes to gun smithing) which led to extraction problems and carbon fouling. I may try to re-line it again someday as my chamber cutting skills improve.

Having relined several 22 RFs, I'll go the opposite. They all worked out well. It is important to which type of chamber is cut, along with doing a good job cutting the crown. Mess either up and forget it.

Using Redman liners also need to be sure to install it in the proper direction. Being button rifled they have a direction to the grain of the lands/grooves.

I relined a 1906 for a friend. Bought all the tools, drill, reamer, chamber gauge. Was fairly straight forward and easy. Rifle shot well and friend was impressed. Was his Daddy's gun in the family from the early '20s. Your location?
