August 025 CZ/BRNO 25/50 Yard Scoped On Line Benchrest Match

Here is the call for the August fun match for scoped CZ/BRNO rifles.
Be safe, shoot straight, and have fun.

Guidelines are same as last month.

CZ or BRNO scoped sporters, in a factory configuration - less than or equal to 9.0 lbs when weighed with the magazine removed. The CZ 452, 453, 455, and 457 Varmint models should qualify unless your glass and rings are more than 2 pounds. Pro Varmint, At One, and Varmint MTR models may be tough to get in under the weight limit.

Any safe trigger. Maximum magnification of 9x on the scope, for 25 yard targets. (Those with variable scopes set them to 9x or lower).

No aftermarket barrels or stocks - only CZ's original stocks and barrels. It is also prohibited to swap the stocks or barrels of different CZ models such as taking the stock from a Varmint and putting it on a Trainer. For 453 and older rifles, if the original CZ or BRNO stock or barrel is damaged, then it can be replaced with the same exact factory part for the specific model. For 455 and newer, the barrel may be changed to the CZ factory .22LR variant for the particular model. There are other BR games on RFC for dramatically altered rifles. We are trying to encourage competition with unmodified or minimally modified open sight CZ sporters. Custom stock bedding performed on a factory stock, including compound-bedding (pillared or non) and plain pillar bedding is prohibited as well.

Target is the USBR Target (The Green Monster)

22 long rifle

Fired from a benchrest using separate front and rear support and a bi-pod is fine if the shooter prefers. Gun vices and one piece rests are not allowed.

Time limit - 1 hour for unlimited sighters and the 25 rounds for score
Wind flags are fine.
You may shoot on an indoor range if it is your only option, but please report that fact in your post.

Option 1: Distance to target is 25 yards, all guidelines above apply.
Option 2: Distance to target is 50 yards, all guidelines above apply except scope magnification is unlimited.

You may post multiple targets if each is fired with a different CZ. For example, a shooter could post one with his/her CZ Varmint and another with his/her CZ American and a third with a scoped Ultra Lux. You may shoot up to FOUR targets with EACH rifle AT EACH DISTANCE and post the highest score fired with each one. Post up any target you shoot if you choose so we can all praise you for your perseverance and improvements. Just don't forget to go back and mark only your best as "Official Entry" before the end of the month.

Post a pic of your target (required) and the equipment you used (recommended) in this thread by August 31, 2025.

Honor system, and we couldn't ask for a more honorable bunch.

Use this format to post your score(s)

A scoring board is helpful, as is a scoring plug (or gauge). An internet search on scoring gauge should reveal multiple sources.

TARGETS?
Good question!
Call to order from:

United States Benchrest Target - American Target Company

For anyone from Canada who would like to join in, I suggest you try an internet search (USBR Target Canada seems to work). The sources of GMs up north seem to be variable.

I didn’t have to give up my basement range yet. I have till the end of August to vacate…. So I’m going to be getting as much shooting in before then.
The conditions were just about perfect early this morning. 70 degrees with very light breeze.
I shot 2 targets at 25 yards with SK Standard.
First target : 248 11x

Well I’m up at my Father in laws this weekend. Brought the 457 American 22lr with a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x42 scope. I didn’t have a rear bag, only my front Caldwell bag on the porch rail. I shot SK Biathlon Sport ammo. So far this is the ammo my rifle likes best. Since I didn’t have a rear bag I shot at 25yrds. Conditions were good. Light winds. Low humidity and warm at 90 degrees. I did hit one of the target clamps lower left corner target. I know my score isn’t gonna win, but I sure felt good shooting that well off the rail. Them squirrels are in trouble when the season opens.

Quick question. Now that I’ve submitted an official entry for the 25yrd distanc, may I also submit an official target entry with the same rifle at the 50 yard distance?

Edited- disregard my question. I just read again and saw in bold “at each distance”.

Thanks! This CZ is a really fun rifle to shoot. It’s pretty accurate with good ammo. I got very lucky with the stock on it too, cause it’s got some beautiful wood grain on it. The only thing I want to upgrade is my scope. And I think I’m going to take a Leupold VX3 HD 4-14x40 CDS with side focus that is currently on a .308, and move it to the CZ. I think it’s a better scope than the vortex.

I shot two targets today and this was the best one. I shot this one top row first. I usually shoot bottom up. After the first row catastrophe, the rest of the target went ok. I used a new lot of SK RM this time. It seems to be ok, better than some lots and not as good as some.

I just got in some SK rifle match. I’m hoping for some nice weather so I can give it another whirl at 50 yards. I’m hoping the SKRM will be the answer…Next week I’ve got an appointment for hernia surgery. I don’t know how good I’ll be feeling for a while after that. So I had better get it done sometime this week.

Thanks Swiss. The ammo gods were kind to me and the SKRM shot very well. The old 452 Varmint loved it.
I just shot this one target out of my basement range . Most likely won’t be able to shoot for a while after my surgery so I was really glad to get a good target first attempt. It’s going to be tough at the end of the month when I have to give up the keys to the range. This has been such an excellent place for me to shoot from without disturbing anyone.
Anyhow:

Finally made it to the range today. Arrived at RBGC by 8:00 and shot until 11:30. All three 457's shot well. Was very pleased with Varmint and the Eley Tenex surplus ammo from CMP at $30/brick.

Thanks Swiss. Yes I have complete confidence in my old 452 Varmint . Your words to the ammo gods inspired me . I got lucky and bought a good batch of Rifle Match too. Hopefully all goes well and I’ll just need to take it easy for a little while and won’t loose much early squirrel season.
Keep on putting up those good targets like you always do. I’ll be watching 😎🇺🇸
