For varminting I like the fragmentation from the vmax ballistic tips.
Center of rodent and they're done. Shreds the innards.
For dealing with predators sniffing around the chicken coop the jacketed hollowpoints are good.
40 grains at 1900 fps punches through the ribs into the heart/lungs and it's over.

I`m not a fan of ANY armscore ammo. I`ve tried them all. Armscore is filthy dirty, its nowhere near accurate in any gun i own. I`ve also had a couple of the 22Mag armscore blow apart during firing in the past (and yes, the chamber, barrel are always properly cleaned). Even if armscore is the last 22Mag ammo on earth, they can keep it.

The best accuracy i`ve ever gotten out of ANY/EVERY 22Mag ammo, is the Hornady 30gr VMax. I can "thread the needle" with the accuracy and consistency of the Hornady 30gr VMax 22Mag ammo.

I`ve tried the CCI Maximag, nothing great, for me, but its ok. I would buy the CCI 22 Maximag if there was nothing else i could get.
The Fiocchi works pretty good, but its no match for the Hornady 30gr VMax. At least not out of any 22Mag rifles i own.

Yes, i do know that, thank you.
And actually, i do have P_L_E_N_T_Y of both CCI 30gr & Hornady 30gr stashed away.
Both of the CCI 30gr & Hornady 30gr shoot exactly the same, for me.

The only difference i see, is the color of the tip on the bullets & headstamp between the two.

The CCI says 30 Grain VARMINT on the box (black tip bullet)
The Hornady says 30 Grain V-Max (red tip bullet)
Both say 2200 FPS.

These shot like garbage

I bought a couple bricks of armscor 40g hp when I was working at hardware store. Some employee discount and it was available. Ran fine in stainless marlin tube fed xt I had at the time. Gave the gun to a friend with most of the ammo. Only have one .22 mag anymore. Anschutz woodchucker youth rifle. Never really shoot it. Just never got rid of it either as it's kinda cool. I have a brick of some 36g. Hv .22 armscor also never used any.

I can speak only to my cz varmint, it absolutely loves the armscor jhp, so much so that so far Ive bought about 700 rounds of it. Sunday I shot a .148" and a .233" with it. Ive yet to shoot over an inch using it. I think a .8 was the biggest so far but almost all of them were way smaller. Just luck really that my gun happens to like it, who knows why. Found some for $8.98 a box a while back on ammoseek and bought a bunch.

There was another 22mag semi pistol where they used a trick with how the chamber was cut (ribbed) to hold the case back for a while. It is not easy to design 22mag semi autos. It may well be the gun design that results on rim separation.

This a system, gun, ammo and shooter. It maybe hard to isolate the gun and ammo in this situation. And you say, OMG the ammo is weaker than Hornady/CCI. Sure you, me, we can say anything. It is the internet. Talk to the guy with weak primer strikes how he like that good robust ammo. I am kinda making this up as I go. I dont see myself ever buying Armscor. But, I am not making assumptions based on how a 22mag semi pistol behaves. I saw the rifle failed too. Could be the same type of delay blow back via ribbed chamber. Dont know, but I would want to know prior to passing judgement.

Well, who knewwww.... it must be one marlin 22mag bolt action and a ruger 22mag bolt action i own must have those ribbed chambers in them too, causing the rounds to blow out??? Because when both brands blew out on me, they were shot using 2 bolt action guns. What i can tell you is, you could definitely tell these loads were over loaded when they went off. So before "passing judgement", i think i was justified in saying what i said/posted earlier.

I didn't realize it comes from two different places but thanks for letting us know. I checked and what I have is USA branded. It didn't last long when I posted about it before but I had to pick up some oil Friday so I checked for it too and they had just stacked up a bunch more of it. I grabbed a couple boxes again even though the inner hoarder in me said get two bricks!! Lol I'll just get a little at a time however since I'm sure the more people see it on the shelves the less the panic buying will continue. I have noticed all other 22 mag ammo is being sold for way higher prices with pretty decent sale prices popping up here and there. Our Wal mart is stocked full of 22 lr ammo and it appears people aren't paying the higher prices. Heck rural king is stocked full too but their prices are also up there. The only things selling are the reasonably priced or much cheaper on sale ammo.

I keep hearing about rifles loving certain types/brands of ammunition.
Sadly, it's never happened for me. If the cartridges have problems,
be it velocity variations, undercharged, overcharged, uneven bullet seating,
irregular brass/bullet dimensions, none of my rifles can fix those problems.
I wish I could purchase a magic rifle that was capable of ignoring cartridge variations
so I could use a hunting cartridge off the bench and punch center with every shot.
Alas, I fear it is not to be. :(

I bought a brick of brass cased (not nickel plated) .22mag, I was not impressed.
Wasn't as reliable feeding in some of my firearms and my Rock Island Armory XT-22m pistol won't extract it.
I noticed bits of gold in the actions of the firearms that ran it, turns out Armscor used ground up brass in their powder as a filler. That's like throwing sand in the crankcase of your car engine.

I've read better reviews of the nickel plated stuff, would be curious which is made where.
