April 2024 CZ/BRNO 25 Yard Scoped On Line Benchrest Match

April is here, the time when we have restarted the monthly CZ/Brno on-line benchrest matches. See below for a variation this year, the option for 50 yard targets. Let's see how it goes.

Be safe, shoot straight, and have fun.

Guidelines:

CZ or BRNO scoped sporters - less than or equal to 9.0 lbs when weighed with the magazine removed. The CZ 452, 453, 455, and 457 Varmint models should qualify unless your glass and rings are more than 2 pounds. Pro Varmint and Varmint MTR models may be tough to get in under the weight limit.

Any safe trigger. Maximum magnification of 9x on the scope. (Those with variable scopes set them to 9x or lower).

No aftermarket barrels or stocks - only CZ's original stocks and barrels. It is also prohibited to swap the stocks of different CZ models such as taking the stock from a Varmint and putting it on a Trainer. If one has damaged his/her original CZ stock, they may order the same exact factory replacement stock for their specific model. There are other BR games on RFC for dramatically altered rifles. We are trying to encourage competition with unmodified or minimally modified scoped CZ sporters. As to custom stock bedding performed on a factory stock, no compound-bedding allowed, pillared or non, and plain pillar bedding is prohibited as well.

Target is the USBR Target (The Green Monster)

22 long rifle

Fired from a benchrest using separate front and rear support and a bi-pod is fine if the shooter prefers. Gun vices and one piece rests are not allowed.

New for this year:
Option 1: Distance to target is 25 yards, all guidelines above apply.
Option 2: Distance to target is 50 yards, all guidelines above apply except scope magnification is unlimited.

Time limit - 1 hour for unlimited sighters and the 25 rounds for score

You can shoot on an indoor range if it is your only option, but please report that fact in your post.

You can post multiple targets if each is fired with a different CZ. For example, a shooter could post one with his/her CZ Varmint and another with his/her CZ American and a third with a scoped Ultra Lux. You may shoot up to FOUR targets with EACH rifle AT EACH DISTANCE and post the highest score fired with each one. Post up any target you shoot if you choose so we can all praise you for your perseverance and improvements. Just don't forget to go back and mark only your best as "Official Entry" before the end of the month.

Post a pic of your target (required) and the equipment you used (recommended) in this thread by April 30, 2024.

Honor system, and we couldn't ask for a more honorable bunch.

Wind flags are fine.

Use this format to post your score(s)

A scoring board is helpful, as is a scoring plug (or gauge). An internet search on scoring gauge should reveal multiple sources.

TARGETS?
Good question!

Shooting Targets - American Target Company
(third row down on the right)

For anyone from Canada who would like to join in, I suggest you try an internet search (USBR Target Canada seems to work). The sources of GMs up north seem to be variable.

You can also find practice targets on this forum. Look under "Little Monster" at:

No dust to blow off just pollen to make the eyes watery. Weather was marginal for me: mid-40's, sunny with 8-10 mph winds from my back. Shot the MTR, At-One, and American using SK Std+. On most range trips one of my CZ's shoots better than the others; the MTR and AT-One score better than the Varmint, Today the MTR performed well. I really like the Meopta scope with the 4C/1 reticle. The At-One shot a 244. Shot for 3 hours alternating between ARA and "Green monster" targets.

I shot a 25 yard USBR target today with my 452 American and SK RM. It wasn't pretty. I didn't even formally score it. It was roughly a 236 - 5x. Weather was sunny, 50° and 10mph wind. The inaccuracies are on me and my set up today. I had planned to do a 50 yard target also, but decided not to waste the ammunition today.

Made another trip to the range yesterday and shot four rifles. I think I am trying to shoot too many rifles during one outing. I usually shoot for three hours but only get in two or three targets per rifle. I like the variety and believe my rifles should be used. My old eyes and a variety of scopes makes shifting between rifles a little difficult. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I changed my first MTR target to an OFFICIAL ENTRY and am adding target shot with my AT-One.

I did shoot another MTR target but couldn't beat my 250. The Meopta is my best scope and I like the center dot more and more.

This will probably be my last outing this month. We travel to DC to attend the promotion ceremony for our niece who will become a Full Colonel in the Air Force. The ceremony will be held at George and Martha's place. Additionally our granddaughter's soccer team in playing in the State Playoffs. Lots of fun activities and travel.

Hope you all can post some targets by the end of the month.

I have some work to do. I shot a target with SK RM and a Caldwell Rock Jr front rest that wasn't so good. Switched to std+ and a front bag that this rifle seems to like better and did a bit better.

First time I shot this rifle for a score. I needed to test it for ejection issues so I figured this would be a good time to use it. I mainly use it for whistle pigs. The trigger is just under 16 oz so not the best for a bench gun. I was pleasantly surprised how well it did. The last two rows killed my score.

First Time For Score Needs Lots Of Practice
20 / 20 torque

All in all, a good day of shooting. First time shooting for score and I sure need more practice. That target is pretty small at 9 power. Wind was coming from right or behind me constantly throughout the morning but it was nice at 87 °. Sky's were clear.

Trigger pull is set at 3 ounces so I expected to shoot better. I guess my old 72 year eyes aren't quite what they use to be. I was at the handicap table, after shooting two targets my neck was very stiff. I'm not getting behind the gun very well and have to stretch to see my optics.

SK Pistol Match is shooting well out of my 457 Varmint but I need to test some more at torque setting to see what works best. I shot PM/ RM and Standard Plus. I still have some Eley to shoot and see if it's any better. After some more testing I'll be ready for next months challenge.
