The one that 'got away' from me was my dad's pre-war Red Ryder. He worked heavy equipment and worked away a lot, kept it under the seat of the pick-up. I was 'not supposed to mess with it' (yep, got in trouble.....), he was weird about it.
After I left home my younger brother and friends got i to it and busted it up. Probably what dad was afraid Id do but I was the careful one ;)
After dad died I was going through stuff and it turned out that RR was probably given to him by his next older brother who joined the Marines before the Japs hit Pearl, was in the PTO and died on Saipan.
Too bad he never told me, but there was lots he never did, and too bad it didnt survive; at least I wasnt the one to wreck it.

Hey there you seem like a single pump BB gun expert Iam trying to track down the model of my first BB gun it had a hidden lever and a plastic stock and loading gate only thing I’ve found that resembles it is the Daisy model 86/70 do you know if there was any others that were like that model

Anyone else here collect antique and vintage BB Guns ? Here are a few of mine. I have about 98% of every Daisy model ever built prior to 1973 and a couple of newer ones that I have modded. I mainly like pre-1930 BB guns and especially pre-1900 models of any kind. Show us yours!

Hello you seem like you have a lot of knowledge on vintage BB guns Iam trying to figure out what my first rifle model was . It had a hidden lever like the 86/70 but not sure that was it, is there others that resembled that model it was a plastic stock metal receiver and plastic loading gate forward of tube any ideas

Not an antique, but vintage i guess, the bb gun that introduced me to competitive shooting was the Daisy 499. While i already had an air rifle at the time, a 22 cal Scottish made Diana (Milbro 250), I only used it to shoot critters.
At cub scout camp there was a small range set up at short range, probably only 20 or 25ft. I signed up to shoot the match and was hooked on offhand competitions. So from that point on the Milbro was used to shoot targets at varying distances. So i guess i can blame Daisy for prompting me to spend $$$$ on silhouette rifles and gear...

I do not know of another Daisy model other then the 86/70 with the features you mentioned.

Chick, I still have my Daisy/Milbro 250, nice, clean and still a fun easy backyard rifle :)
And my 1985ish Daisy Red Ryder, mid eighties 717 and an 853
All satisfactory in their own way

Great article! I've never seen such a great collection. I still have my Daisey Model 25 Pump that was bought out of the Montgomery Ward catalog for $9.00 around 1956. As I remember, the lever was $7.00.
BTW...I'm 78!

Dang, those are some interesting BB guns. Got my first Red Ryder in '57. That was so much fun. I have a few "air guns" or pellet guns. We lost the place we used to shoot them in 2022 and we haven't found a replacement location yet. I should get them out and clean them at least. You all have inspired me. Thanks

My first gun was a crossmam 760 with wood stock. I was around 9 years old. Circa 1968.
Mine was a Crosman 130 pistol in 1965. It was later joined by the Crosman 140 rifle, which basically had the same design as the pistol. Single shot pump guns. Both fired .22 pellets… and whatever were the small berries that we would strip off a branch in the woods, for our war games.
Half tempted to buy the current .177 version of the pistol, the 1377.

Nice collections everyone.
I am still trying to replace my first BB gun, lost long ago. Sadly I don't know the model.
It was a Daisy with a plastic butt and front stock. It had a real short barrel that was also the magazine in the barrel. Any thoughts on what model or how to replace?
Thanks
