I was wondering if anybody knew of any alternatives for the Magpul Takedown Backpacker stock, Sling "Kit"?
It's the quick release style and Magpul is out of stock of these. Not to mention they are pretty pricy for a little piece of metal.

I have a sling with the quick release buttons. But I am looking for the insert cup that mounts to the stock to allow the sling button to snap in and attach to the stock.
Magpul sells a kit but they're out of stock and quite pricy for what they are.
The Kit #2 that is apparently only for mounting to the opposite side to allow for ambidextrous mounting. Kit #1 is sold out. And I am not clear on whether Kit #1 comes with the nut/bolt hardware for mounting it as Kit #2 only includes a single cup.

Just been there, Cabela's had a couple, done that; fully agree. Suggest just waiting.
Unless the ones you get are screwdriver secured (don't ask), you'll have to have/use deep socket to tighten it.
Royal PITA, no matter how you view it. Magpul customer service was excellent though!!

In meantime if you absolutely need a sling (and you don't), use a cord passed thru a section of garden hose, secured with a fat knot.
Ok gotcha, that's a good idea about the cord through the loops.
Thank you.

I have the sockets. I'm not sure how you attach them on the Magpul stock but I generally drill a hole to insert the cup into the stock. I either just epoxy it in or use a short screw and epoxy depending on the depth of the available material going into. If you just need one PM me your address and I will throw one in the mail. If you epoxy it in it is not going to come out. Let me know.
Here is a picture of one with a stock I epoxied one in to.

Grg: Oh interesting, that's not a bad idea. I appreciate your offer to send me one. I would've taken you up on that but last night I was able to find one and order it from Primary Arms online. That's very kind of you to offer.
Supposedly Kit#1 comes with mounting hardware. If not, I'll probably do the epoxy method as you mention.
Thank you!

So, the above gives you lightweight, no cost attachment points for conventional QD slings. Work very well.

If you don't love how a sling works with the Magpul attachment points, and I don't, there's something else you can do.

If you wrap a shoelace or leather thong 2-3 times around the barrel, it will bind and stay roughly in place. Then you will have a place to mount a sling just above the plastic forend, near the base of the barrel, for an entirely conventional rifle sling scenario. This has been hugely better for me. I haven't determined whether this causes any loss of zero, which it very well might. Loss of zero already being a possible problem with the takedown system when using receiver mounted Tech-Sights or similar.

(The Tech-Sight TSR 100 is fantastic, and worth some loss of zero to me; I think the TSR 200 might be a better choice for the takedown, because of the easier sight adjustment.)
