Last July, in another forum there was a challenge put out about shooting through a Life Saver from the 50 yard bench.
In their challenge they mentioned that this hole in the white life savers is but .285"
.....and sending a .224" pill through won't be an easy task.
A whopping crowd of us got in on this immediately, started gaming each other and the fun was on...(for all 4 of us)...seems that there wasn't many interested in being humiliated.
Well it wasn't but a week that passed and one of us did the deed. I forget his rifle but it was one from around 1889 or so, a beautiful rifle...
......his doing that really put the pressure on the rest of us, nobody wanted to drop out.
He posted his target and the pressure and gamesmanship was on...
Geez...by this time I've already busted, 'blown to oblivion 3 cards' of life savers, 30 shots already and not even 1 nearly made it through. It seems that if you just nick them, they explode...your heart drops each time.
Now I am thinking about angles, my bench is not square to my backstop but I didn't know exactly by how much...hmmmmm, I better check this out, so I pull a string from the backstop to the bench and measure the angle...
I was shooting from about 15Âş from the right side, well I need all the help I can get here so I build a target backer to compensate for this...I put up another 10 Life Savers for the slaughter...
.....then another card after that...now I've blown up 50 Life Savers so far!
Am I going to be the only one who can't manage this little challenge?
Well...the answer was ''Hell No!" now the Marine in me is embarrassed and 'hell bent' to get'er done!
I head for the shop and super glue another 10 Life Savers to a card...I take my warmer shots, then line up on the first Life Saver and for some reason, it didn't explode! First thoughts, "dang! I've missed the board all together...this is getting really bad!"
So I walk up to see the matter with that shot and low & behold...there was a hole in the center of that first Life Saver...
You boys can't imagine the relief I felt at that moment, all the pressure was off, I had finally sneaked one through and I was done at shot 51!
I had thoughts of taking some pictures and quitting right there but then I ended up shooting the last 9 on the card. So much easier to shoot the last of them as I didn't care if they exploded...BUT...low & behold, on the 57'th shot...another Life Saver didn't explode!
I thought..."no way!" but as luck would have it, 'taadaah' I did it again!
This was a humbling experience, this was probably one of the most satisfying challenges I ever got into.
So far, 3 of us have gone through the fire, only one of us is left to complete the challenge. He is a gun shop owner on the east Coast and can't shoot anytime he likes but I have no doubt he'll join us in the 'humiliated circle' very soon.
I have tried to get this started on the You Tube by posting the challenge to several of the boys that show their prowess and their top tier rifles in a video every week but...so far...not even a whisper of interest.
Well, that's the story of A humbling account about a Life Saver Challenge...hope you enjoyed the read...also hope some of you might try this and report your humbling account about a Life Saver Challenge also...
