I had a 4" blued version like the one shown. Smooth and great trigger and accurate. Of course, I sold it so I could buy something else. Very nice!

Agreed. The older pre model 34 has a much smoother action between these two. I find the build quality significantly better on the older S&W revolvers.

I have owned both and also a 51 and a 43.

The 43 was a great trail gun.........so light you forgot you had it on you.

Agree that the current S&Ws are not near as smooth functioning and desirable as these old ones.

I love the model 43 as well. It’s the lightest weight .22 that I own!

I’ve been selling out my S&W J frame 22s. I like them but carry old K22 which I had since a kid. I have a 34 and 63-5 I took on a trade. I don’t like the fiber optic sight. It’s in trade pile. Just sold 3 other older J frames. The only J that was total mistake was the 317. So light you wouldn’t believe it, but I couldn’t hit a bull in the butt with it.

 

Guns so light are tough to hit with.

My Model 43 required a two hand hold and a rest if possible.

Then it did fine.

 

The M34 -2” does fine off a rest as do the m15 & m19 in 2”. Mighty un handy to drag around a 1500 lb . round bale to rest on. 4” or 6” of barrel much easier to transport.

I love the little 2” 34-1 as it is what started me on the kit gun acquisition kick. I traded a Mauser HSc for it a few years back. That little 2” gun is great fun for making aluminum cans dance out in the woods.
