When my son was 7 years old I bought him a CZ 452 trainer in 22 long rifle. He didn't get to shoot it until the summer when he was 8 which was about 6 months after christmas.
I taught him gun safety and we shot a little bit here and there, but then I went through a divorce and the gun set in my gun safe for several years. When he turned 18 I gave the gun to him and we went out shooting and he struggled with the iron sights. He has worn glasses since he was young and he loves to shoot but he was only so so in accuracy.
It's the only gun that he owns on his own and now he is 28 and has his own family. We went out shooting last summer and last fall and he was excited to be grouping 2 inch groups at 50 yards with the open sites. He said he was having issues seeing the sights correctly. I gave him one of my Simmons AETEC Scopes from the early 2000s that were made in the philippines. Very nice quality scope.
He mounted the scope and on Saturday we went out and it was the first time he shot it since. I helped him to sight it in and then gave him some SK standard Plus rounds to shoot. He proceeded to shoot five consecutive five round groups that were all easily covered completely by a dime. All at 50 yards.
He could not believe how well it shot and neither can I. What a great shooting gun!
More interesting, not a flyer in the bunch. Just shooting off of a basic bags on a very calm morning.
