25MN to 17hmr?

I have a older 25mn that I picked up cheap from a pawn shop and I got to thinking the other day, since the price of the ammo is the same around here and the 17hmr shoots much flatter while using the 22mag as its parent case. Why not try it out. So would I be able to convert it to 17hmr just by swapping the barrel? without any other major mods to the gun so if I didnt like it I could put the 22mag barrel back on?

So does anybody know where I can find a new or used 917 barrel and would it swap out with my 25mn? are they both pinned in the same way?

OK, first, I'm no expert. Simply an enthusiast who tinkers with these things. However, from my experience, there should be no reason your proposal wouldn't work. Obviously, the 17hmr barrel would need to be headspaced to your action. Not a difficult job, but does require the "know how" and potentially some limited machining. Once that was done, changing back would certainly be feasible.

As far as a source for the 17 barrel, I'd suggest putting an ad in the trader section of this list. I would suspect that there are a few folks out there who are taking off the stock barrel to replace it with a more "high end" product.

Good luck and let us know how it works for you if you pursue it.
