22lr ppk clones?

Hey everybody, I was recently in my local gun shop and came across an Iver Johnson? Tp22? That looked alot like a small Walther Ppk. I was pretty interested in it, but was told it is not for sale. He did tell me there are others that are pretty much the exact same, just different companies/names.

Do any of you know what they are?
I'm a really big fan of the ppk (not so much the ppk/s which i can find in 22lr) and now really interested in the tp22 and possibly any other 22lr ppk "clone".

If you can help with names/models i would greatly appreciate it

Buddy has one of the TP22s..I kinda would like to get it out of him..But it is in the box and he bought it new many years ago.So he is kinda attached to it...I think they had, or atleast some years of manufacture did, a problem with the trigger guards snapping off when disassembling them, as they were pot metal..

I am not really into cheaper stuff like these..But I would like to have his just to own a example..I will think but there is another decent quality brand I looked at before too..Made in Italy I believe..But I cannot think of it right now..

94exa2,

Erma made those TP-22s for Iver Johnson, American Arms, and for Excam, plus they sold them under the "Erma" name. Iver Johnson also sold a .25ACP version. Some were actualy made in, or put together in, America. They come apart like the Walther guns do. There was also a variation that looked like a small Model 1911-type pistol (sort of). Here are a couple of them, at auction:

Are the erma, iver, American arms, excam models smaller than a ppk? I feel like the iver johnson i saw seemed smaller than ppk. Bersa seems to be same size as ppk. I like the small aspect.

Do the erma, iver, aa, excam models all have the same size grip? Some look longer than others in pictures.

I really like the ppk more than the ppks, a smaller ppk clone would be a neat thing to have around.

I've owned the American Arms TP22. It's a cute pistol but lacks the quality of some of the other above mentioned pistols. The ones that have impressed me the most are the Walther TPH, The Beretta 21a, Beretta 948 or 70s and the Daewoo DP52 (more similar to the Walther PP in size). The Walther PP is a great choice as well but kind of pricey. The Astra Constable is another rock solid but larger .22lr worth looking for.

For size comparions ...

From left, Erma-Excam RX22, Grendel P-10, Walther TPH and Iver Johnson TP-22. The Grendel is .380 ACP, the others .22lr.

Of the three, the RX22 stands out for my use. Mainly due to the size - just right for carrying and shooting. The TPH and TP-22 are just a bit too small - great for concealment, but harder (for me, maybe not for you) to shoot. I've owned that RX since 1981 - its a high miler for me, getting a lot of carry time in the woods. The only ammunition it did not care for was the CCI Stinger - I guess the slightly longer case gave it indigestion. :p

If you do choose the TP-22, try to find the early glossy finished gun. One of my uncle's owned one and it was a jewel. The latter dull finished (like mine shown) seem to have some issues with functioning. Others may have different experience but that has been the case here.

Good luck with your choice. :t

So the erma rx22 is bigger than the iver tp22? Just the grip? Or barrel slide too?
Its very hard to find information in these

Oh id love a Walther Tph, but they are too expensive for me. Used ones seem to go for more than a new 380 ppk.

So there's a tp22, rx22, px22 and cx22? Are there others that are pretty much the same? Are any of them "better" or higher quality than the others?

Where can I learn more about these?
I am very intrigued by the tp22 and its siblings

FWIW

I had an IJ TP22 for quite some years as my small carry. Never had to 'use it'. It was reliable, ate every HV I fed it and reasonable accurate within its purpose.
BUT, it chewed the web of my hand too many times, and I dont have overly large or fat hands. It required a very conscious hold on the grip, not a stick hand in pocket, pull and shoot.
Sold it after the last bite, got good money too, and bought Ruger LCP 380. NO issues ever, basically the same size/weight iirc, more accurate and I have much more faith in the new-gen 380s for 'social work' than any 22rf mouse gun. For my purposes it was a no-brainer, for the same kind of carry have the more efficient tool.
I have never regretted selling the TP.

The IJ .22 is a bit smaller than a PPK. It is simpler in looks. The TPH is quite a bit smaller but would be the one you want. I lucked across both at a pawn shop awhile back. The IJ shoots o.k. with heavy trigger but did not have any issues. The TPH is a pleasure but with its size and the size of your hand it may lead to slide bite.

The Bersa pistols aren't PPK "clones",,,

The Bersa pistols aren't PPK "clones",,,
The internals are not the same at all.

But the Bersa designer probably had a PPK on his desk,,,
When he designed the look of the guns.

My Bersa's (Thunder 380 and Thunder 22) perform perfectly,,,
Can't remember the last time they malfunctioned.

I had a Walther TPH. I should have never let it go. The only weak point I saw was that the magazine floor plate was plastic and often broke, but I just glued it. Today, I imagine -3D printing would fix that quick. Mine was very accurate and reliable. But, I can't justify the price used ones bring now. The first ones were made in Germany. The stainless was made here in the USA.
