For the most part the barrel length only matters if you plan to use iron sights. The longer the barrel the longer the sight radius, giving better accuracy. If using a dot sight or scope,then the barrel length doesn't matter.

The 10 inch heavy barrel should give you excellent accuracy. I just love the 10 inch heavy bbl in .22 magnum on my G1 Contender.:bthumb:

 

10's are great! My octagon even shoots cheap crap exceptionally well.

 

A 10" will work fine for your intended purpose, easier to pack around than the 14" barrels. I have both a 10" bull and a 10" octagon and prefer the bull for silhouette and the octagon for hunting. Both are equally accurate.

If you can find a 22lr Match barrel grab it. Years ago when I shot IHMSA silhouette I used a 10 inch, 22 match barrel.I scoped it to find a good brand of ammo and it was really accurate.

Back before my tremor developed a 10" Match barrel topped with a Burris 2x-7x LER AO was my go to squirrel rig. Very accurate especially with match ammo! Even managed to shoot an 1-1/4" 100yd 5 shot group with Wolf match target from the bench once (wallet group for me).

My Contender pistol has a 10" .22lr Match barrel with an old Simmons 2X6 pistol scope. Been on a 10/22 obsession for a while, but it will shoot tiny groups at 25 yards with SK fodder from the bench. For squirrels at 50 yards, the pistol is certainly up to the task ...... if you can hold it steady! :t

 

For a while the best 5 shot target group I ever fired at 50 yards was with a 10" TC match barrel. The one I have is from the 1990s. I used to have a 2X-7X Burris PA scope on it but have a 5X Burris PA until I am finished with using the 2-7 on a Ruger Charger.

 

Here's my Ruger Mark IV with10 inch barrel and the 22/45 Lite barrel and 5.5 in target. All shoot exceptionally well. The 10 inch will easily post sub1 inch groups at 25 yards.
