Shot my HS Derringer today and had a few failures to fire and a lot of hard to eject cases. I was dumping them into a bucket and not examining them, but found this later. They loaded easily, the chambers look fine. I wont be firing the rest of the box.

Sound like a good idea ;) That big of a split is tough on a chamber.

I'm not sure how rimfire ammo stands up to time, and/or storage conditions.
I have a couple bricks of Winchester legacy LR ammo on hand, about 20years old by the packaging, and I'm using it up for DA practice in my SP101, and offhand practice in my OEM 10/22. Nary a problem.
I have seen LR/WMR firearms that were prone to misfires, and case splits though. Tired springs, grit in the firing pin channel, ammo with thin or thick rims can all be a source of failure. Chambers a bit on the large size can be a problem if case splits show up too often. Try some new ammo. If you have misfires/duds and split cases, you'll know where to start looking for a solution.
