22 LR Snake Shot (shotshell) ammunition???

Anyone know why 22 LR snake shot (shotshell) ammo is so hard to find? I've been looking for days and been to major retailers stores and searched online. Just about everyone is out of stock. I did find one site that claimed to have it in stock but would only accept cryptocurrency for payment which I don't do. Another site required a $300 minimum purchase. We are in the middle of a very wet monsoon season which is bringing out the very venomous Sonoran Desert Toad which are deadly to dogs if they bite one thinking it is something to play with. One of those evil toads killed a dog of mine several years ago. There is no anti-venom available per my vet. Only chance to save your dog if you catch it in time is to rinse their mouth out with running water for about a half hour. I have had to do this with my two dogs twice in the last couple of weeks. I go on toad patrol every night. Killed 4 this week. Used a shovel on one and shot 3 with 22 LR pistol. Im on acreage but want to find some 22 LR snakeshot (shotshell) ammo so I don't need to worry about ricochets. And a 410 shotgun shell is to dang loud (I don't want to disturb or freakout neighbors. Just thought I would post this question to see if anyone might know why snakeshot ammunition is impossible to find.

it's just a specialty niche round and like so many other calibers and loads that aren't the most mainstream best sellers are almost impossible to find anymore.

You did well to run away from any website asking for payment in cryptocurrency, I bet 99% of them are scam sites not legit.

$300 won't buy a lot of 22 shotshells, the cci ones are usually $.55 per. $11 for a sleeve of 20.

Midway is out of stock/no backorder. Ammoseek does show 2 places claiming to have stock but they are asking nearly 3x retail. $30 for 20 cci shotshells no thanks.

Well the OP posted his question and immediately logged off, hasn't been back.

They really are nice to have on hand say for inside your shed or garage or anywhere at close range with a questionable backdrop. I already have a lifetime supply at the rate I use them or I would be grabbing some from the federalpremium site while they are available.(y)
Maybe he's not in the USA? monsoon season, sonoran desert?

Why? Because it's a specialty item few people buy. And because of the huge demand for bricks of regular 22s, manufacturers aren't worrying about snake shot.
I like it, I live in Arizona and get 1-4 rattlesnakes in the yard a year. Sometimes on the porch. You don't want to shoot holes in your walls. 22 snakeshot works best for me.

Tried using them on ground squirrels in traps. Solid bullets damage the wire. With the shot shells, most suffered before they died. I really dislike the little darlin's. But, I still don't want them to suffer.
Most rattlesnake encounters are while weed whacking. A weed whacker is a very effective weapon against rattlesnakes.
I would recommend a frog gig for your toad problem.

I have some Federal and CCI shot rounds for the occasional Copperhead (only poisonous snake where I live). It is always distasteful killing them and fortunately I don't need to do that often.

Dispatching them with a shovel or axe was something I hated, as I love animals generally, and got a Heritage .22LR revolver specifically for a quick kill using shot shells. They did not die quickly with a shovel or axe.

I've lived out West 33 years. I've seen dozens of rattlesnakes and kill about 1-2 every summer in the yard. I leave the others alone. I used 22 CB caps for decades. You have to be a good, calm shot and hit them exactly right in the head. Often you don't get a clean kill. I've had to shoot them 3-4 times sometimes to get them to mostly stop moving. So I switched to .22 CCI snake shot 2-3 years ago. Bang! One shot, aimed at the head, and they're dead in a few seconds. I'll keep using them for snakes from now on. Before, always thought they were "too easy" or too expensive.

I've got an old box of Super-X (with the all-brass case and crimp) that my grandad had. Also one of those old CCI flat-packs that had 10 or 20 plastic tipped rounds in it. I think I bought that one when I was a teenager.

I hope you can find some since it sounds like you need them.

I know I saw it somewhere recently. So I did a quick search. I'm thinking Federal just put out a bunch. My LGS has Federal posted but now out of stock $18.99 for a box of 50 rds.
Did a ammo seek search only 2 both CCI 20 Rd box $$$$ $1.40 a round.
Did see Federal direct I have never ordered from them.

I keep a single action loaded with .22LR shotshell. In my area biggest concern is a copperhead getting one of my dogs. Any other non venomous snakes are ok with me. I will relocate them over the fence. I don't want my K-9 kids to get in the habit of playing with any snakes. Since they do not know the difference in a black snake and a copperhead.
Yeah the bad toads would have to go also. If no shotshell a net and some buckets do some relocating.
K-9 kids come first !

I have purchased many rounds from Federal direct. It has been a few months ago, but I ordered the # 12 shot from them. Only place I could find it. I checked earlier this morning and they were available. From my experience in purchasing for Federal, if you see it available, & need some, you better buy, it will not be there long.

Thanks Padlocker. I just went to the Federal Ammo Site and purchased 4 boxes. I really appreciate your taking the time to locate these for me. The evil Sonoran Desert toads will not be happy......but I am doing everything in my power to keep my two dogs from getting very sick or dying from these evil toads. I'm using leashes, and electronic collars on them when I dont have them leashed. I never want to go through what I went through when my other dog died from biting one of those toads. It was extremely heartbreaking. I didnt catch it in time to save her. It was around midnight. Talked with the vet and he said she was too far gone to save and it would have been very expensive to even try. Still got at least another month of dealing with these evil toads. Its been a wet monsoon this year and this is the worst year I've seen for these toads. These 22 LR shotshell loads work great on dispatching toads. I used them in the past and they worked perfect here on my mini-ranch. Ive never used them on a snake. I do catch ground squirrels in a live trap. Distructive little bastards. I usually drive them about 4 or 5 miles away and release them on AZ State Land. I guess I could dispatch them with this 22 LR shotshell ammo when they are captured without damaging my cage but I think I will just continue to drive em out to the State Land and release them.
Anyway thanks for the input from everyone. I truly appreciate it.

Hey CD: Glad you were able to find some. Here in Va. we have Starlings that try to nest or lay eggs in my Purple Martins houses during the time they are here. I purchased a Henry 22LR garden gun which is a smooth bore that works a little better than shooting the # 12 shot in a rifled barrel. I practice for the Fall dove season by trying to shoot on the wing the Starlings as they come out of the Purple Martins houses! Lots of fun. The Federal web-site has high shipping, but I try to buy other type of ammo so I can get as much as the 12 dollars will ship. Good Luck.
