1930s, 40s vintage scope information

I am looking for information on scopes appropriate for 1930s or 40s .22 rifles. Other than looking at e-bay, I don't know where to start. Can anyone suggest a book, magazine or website? There are plenty of old scopes out there, but I don't know one from another. Also, I need to find which mounts I need for my rifle, a Win. Mod 68.
Thanks

A LITTLE pricey? I had no idea that anyone would pay those kind of prices for that book. I have the 2000 edition of "Old Rifle Scopes" in new condition, autographed and dated by Nick. I also have the 1998 edition of "Old Gun Sights" in new condition.

Are they really bringing anything close to that? Just curious..... I don't want to sell them, even for those prices.

Shooter's Bible

Stoeger is / was a major distributor in guns and accessories. For over 60 years they have produced an annual catalog, well-illustrated and very descriptive, called the Shooter's Bible. And in the 1990s they began doing some reprints of old catalogs from the 1940s. I have one-- I think it's the 1946 or 1947 catalog. Anyhow, civilian development of guns and related equipment was frozen from 1941 through 1945 on account of WWII. It took until the late 1940s for the "modern" guns and scopes and such to hit the market. So if you could find an old Stoeger catalor or a reprint of one, it would give you lots of ideas.

HVance,

Is your 68 drill and tapped for a scope mount? What condition is it in? If it has "condition" you will devalue it by drilling holes. It will also cost you to drill and tap unless you can do it yourself. You might think about a different rifle that is scope ready. Just a suggestion.:)
