Interested in buying a 17hmr for local 100yd golf ball matches…benchrest…considering CZ 457, Tikka T1X, new Barbara BMR-X or possibly an Anschutz.
Anyone have a 17 they compete with?
Any suggestions appreciated

I haven't competed with my CZ 457 17HMR but I do compete with my other 3 457 CZ's in 22lr. The 17 has the same action as the 22's so there is a lot of aftermarket support. Trigger on the CZ only needs a spring change to break under a pound with full adjustment for travel. Barrel swaps are easy so you can have a 22lr, 22mag and 17 HMR with just a barrel and mag swap. My 17HMR is plenty accurate for golf balls at 100 yds with CCI A 17 ammo..

My 1717 shoots about like Gerald's, and, whether one calls ammunition match or not, this rifle easily outshoots any .22 LR I've owned at 100 yards with good lots. Also, there is no comparison on effectiveness on sage rats or other live targets. My now-sold VQ .17 HMR was similarly accurate, and it made me rethink the importance of square, rigid lock up with minimum headspace, lightning lock time, epoxy bedding, and action screw torque (there's only one action screw in the VQ). I would still recommend the 1717 over all others mentioned. I retrofitted a DST to mine:

My 1717D is my favorite 17hmr of them all. Shoots lights out. For some reason I am more accurate with 20g ammo. Brand doesn't seem to matter to much. Like Gerald I haven't run across any 17hmr that is particularly bad. In order of my capabilities it is anschutz 1717D top in consistent tight groups, if I do my bit. Tikka and bergara are really neck and neck. Different rifles but truly amazingly accurate and all weather. Steyr zephyr2 17hmr is a stalking rifle very light and fast handling. Never really that great shooting it offhand but had possibilities. Sold it before ammo testing was complete. Marlin 917vs with macarbo trigger spring kit is a very accurate rifle. Savage has a particularly weak synthetic stock but action trigger and accuracy not to be sneezed at. Those rifles I never shot shoot a golf balls. Sounds fun. I sneak around getting groundhogs. Also great fun. 17hmr is a very underrated cartridge around here. The codgers older than me say it's doesn't work as well as the .22mag. I entirely disagree, but keep my mouth shut and chuckle to myself, and go about my business.
