I was trying to buy a CZ 527 since the Covid issue started.
Was never successful in finding one to buy.
Collected some ammo and a set of dies and then CZ announced the 527 was gone.
As far as I know Savage is the last one still making a 17 Hornet.
And of course Still cant find one to buy.
Looked into the TC option but it seems they are getting collectable now.
Is any other company offering one in 17 Hornet ?

And I will add it’s a pretty nice rifle if you can get your hands on one. About 3-4 years ago I ordered the same exact gun except in .17wsm. The dealer screwed up and got the hornet, and I should have went ahead and took it and had him to just order me the wsm but I didn’t, and have regretted it ever since. I still have the wsm and really like it.

I'll second the contender have had this as a rifle 21 inch barrel since 84 and it's an accurate little gun, in .22 hornet it can also shoot .22 and 22 WMR with chamber inserts,
By the way gunsinternational has this for sale

I purchased a Savage 17 hornet today from classic firearms. Along with sweet 17 scope 3x12x40.

The 527s were stacked like unsold cord wood for $600 at gun shows not so long ago. If you are going to pay the current price for a 527 (which it seems you are not willing to do), I would place a WTB for a Cooper 38 in 17 AH. It will probably be in the $1500 range but is a more refined rifle, albeit a single shot.

A conversion like this would be tempting, but keep in mind that more than merely swapping a barrel will be involved: 1) the bolt face and extractor will not match the .22 Hornet/.17 Hornet head dimensions, and 2) the magazine will require considerable modification to function properly, if one desires a repeater. A single shot on the Howa mini action would simplify the conversion considerably.

I only have one 17 Hornets a CZ Varmint. But I do have a number of 22 Hornets, including the already mentioned CZ 527 American, Cooper 38, Ruger 77/22 Varmint a T/C Contender pistol and also a Savage model 40 single shot. The Savage is a fairly nice rifle in actuality. It's well designed to be inexpensively manufactured but it isn't a cheap made rifle. It wouldn't be my first choice, but the Savage wouldn't be a mistake. If the Savage 25 appeals to you by all means pick one up and give it a try. If another more desirable rifle should happen by then you'll have enough experience to decide if you should add it to your collection. The Hornets are fun cartridges.

Well , just an update on this old thread.
Sportsmans warehouse finally had Savage 25's listed as available in 17 Hornet.
Pulled the trigger on a Walking Varminter model at a decent price.
Should be able to pick it up in about a week.
Now just need to locate extra magazines and decide on a powder to load.

Accurate 1680 has worked really well for me in both of my CZ 527's w/20gr Vmax. I have a friend with a CZ 527 Varmint 17 Hornet just like my two and he's been using CFE BLK in his 17 Hornet w/20gr Vmax with great success. With CFE BLK it's a little slower powder then 1680 so you'll use a few tenths more per round with it over 1680. I use 12.2gr 1680 w/20 Vmax and I think he uses 12.8gr CFE BLK with the same bullet.

In 2019 I got bit by the 17 Hornet. I saw a CZ 527 varmint

in 17 Hornet with a factory threaded barrel. I was interested in the threaded barrel for a suppressor.
When I ordered the suppressor I called CZ-USA. to find out the threads. They told me that the model i was referring to was not supposed to be in the United States.
I gave them my numbers and they were surprised that I had one. I asked them how many might be in the United States and he didn't know, but he said not many. I took a screenshot of the advertisement that I ordered mine. I went to a bunch of forums and asked who had one. I found 8 or 10, I think.
Even though it is a fairly rare gun in the USA I use it all the time. I was incredibly fortunate to have found this one.

Well,I finally took possession of the Walking Varminter .
Had to wait a week for the weather to clear and get to the range.
Took advantage of the wait and was able to order extra magazines from Savage directly.
First experience with the 17 Hornet and was surprised as to how accurate it is, 15.5 and 20 grain loads shot very close to each other.
Of course I seem to have the same problem most 25's have, don't eject on a regular basis.
Found out after I ordered it was a common complaint that Savage isn't too concerned with fixing.
Sent two emails so far and no responses yet.

My kids have MGM & EA Brown Contender carbines. Both are every bit as accurate as the four CZ 527s my buddies and I have. Great triggers. The EA Brown is straight heavy and the MGM is tapered. The Ruger is a no go, barrel is way too short to be any good. The CZ you need to have Calhoon modify the magazines to get full accuracy potential. 1680 and whatever 20 grain bullet is on sale. Tipped bullets shoot flatter, but don’t kill as well after ~ 175 yards. We kill north of a thousand chucks/year with them.

Just an update.
Sent the Savage back to the factory and it came back with a note saying some small parts were replaced.
Took advantage of a sale Midway was having on a Vortex scope that was almost 1/2 price.
Made it to the range yesterday and got it all sighted in.
So far so good.
The Diamond Back 4x16x42 is a good match for this combo .
This is an accurate rifle.
This rifle wont win any beauty awards but it is serviceable and has a very good trigger.
I have already collected some reloading components so I can keep busy for awhile.
And yes,I will still be on the lookout for a CZ or Contender .
