Another old guy that is going to stick his toes into the 10/22 arena.
I have been reading threads, watching videos and just trying to soak up everything I could concerning a 10/22 over the last year or so.
I was leaning towards a Kidd at one point but again as I contemplated that investment of dollars and this will really be more of a fun plinker for me I decided after much deliberation to instead go with the Ruger Light Varmint Target with the steel barrel and Hogue stock.
One of the reasons I decided to go this route is in general it seems the more expensive builds with the higher end barrels are apt to be a bit choosier on the ammo it likes and as already stated this will be mainly a fun plinker that I really hope that ammo like CCI SV and the cheaper eley target or force shoot decently as I do not want to feel I need to feed it the higher priced quality match ammo to shoot decently.
I do realize that fliers and so forth will be more common with the cheaper ammo but my wallet will be happier and I have a ton of the cheaper ammo stashed away.
Mainly will be shooting at 50 yards and maybe occasionally playing out to 100 yards but if I can get good performance at 50 yards with the finished product I will be happy.
My intention will be to send this out to Randy at CPC and have him do the full monty of his services on the brand new barreled action as in my reading this seems to be the best way to get the most out of a 10/22 while maintaining stock Ruger parts.
Not sure about using the hogue stock as far as rigidity and putting an Arca rail on it for a bipod or whether maybe I would be better off just to plan on getting like a Victor stock and also have the rear action "spike" holdown to boot.
Any opinions on the stock from people that have experience with them I would love to hear.
So any way I put the rifle on layaway today as I have been spending way too much here in the last few weeks gathering up the remaining stuff needed to finish up on new a CZ MTR project and it is now time to get the wheels rolling on the next project.
