The day is finally here, the long awaited Winchester Xpert, 22LR, bolt action rifle, arrived at the LGS. I went and picked it up. It has a 18” non-threaded barrel, a very lightweight synthetic stock and a relatively smooth action. It uses a rotary mag that is almost identical to the Ruger 10/22 style mag, which will work in the rifle. The rifle mid $200 rifle, much like is brother, the Wildcat, I can see this been a great plinking rifle, the lightweight, size and balance should make this popular with the grandkids.

Like the Wildcat semi-auto, the Xpert bolt action is made in Turkey

Hopefully either later tonight or early tomorrow morning I will have this at the range, to check it out, I follow up with a report.

An interesting rifle. Not a fan of the Buck Rogers-style stock, but I expect it's functional. If the trigger is decent -- not heavy (>4#), gritty, and/or creepy -- or amenable to tweaking to a crisp 1.5 to 2# pull and has decent accuracy, it would make a nice plinker and/or truck gun. Looking forward to a trigger and range report.

The 'Wildcat' (older, semiauto brother to the Xpert) has a trigger only a mother could love. HOWEVER, it is everything a 10/22 should have been from the get-go, it's just not as refined. I will say, the Wildcat (the two I have) will feed ANY ammo I can stuff in them w/out a hiccup. Jack can comment further, he's the Xpert.

I’m at 3# with the original spring, that’s workable for me, I like my triggers between 2# - 3#. Trust me, manufacturers, like CZ and Bergara, are not loosing sleep over the Xpert rifle. It a great, viable $250 rifle, it’s not a target rifle, it’s a truck, camp, kids, perfect bolt action rifle, squirrels, small game and tin cans

I finally got my Xpert in yesterday. I cleaned it, put a Nikon 3x9 rimfire on it and shot it at thirty yards. Scope was on 5x and was using light bags on a rickety table. Shooting one inch stickers on a large box. There was a light cold breeze blowing right to left. The rifle functioned smoothly and perfectly. Not sure the poundage on the trigger but would guess 3lbs or less. The following groups were shot using different ammos. No cleaning betwwen groups or ammo. I was just trying to get an idea what how the rifle may perform. I was looking for minute of squirrel head accuracy and the Xpert did that and then some.

Not sure when, but I will get around to shooting it at 50 yards. I will probably never shoot it at 100 yards. Not interested in paper punching at long distance with a 22 long rifle. I squirrel hunt and my interests are how well a rifle will shoot in relation to humanely killing a squirrel. I shot 22 benchrest for a while. It was fun but got expensive and in the end, I couldn't exactly figure out the point of it. Paper tastes mighty bad no matter how you prepare it. Besides it just sits there and taunts you causing you to have to spend tremendous amounts to show it that you mean business.

Reb,

I don’t believe Winchester designed or thought this was going to be a 100 yd paper puncher, I believe much likes it brother, the Wildcat, it was meant as a plinker and a close range squirrel - ground hog gun. Perfect for the ranch, truck or camp, as I said originally, this is not going to be a Bergara or CZ killer.

I love mine, but I shoot paper at a much closer distance

I picked one up over the weekend. Seems likes a well built little rifle for the money. Got a scope mount for it today and shot a 50 yard group. I think it has potential. View attachment 372772
Mine shot very well, yours look very promising
I finally got to the 50 yd range a couple weeks ago. In NE Ohio, this time of year opportunities with decent weather are few and far between. With a Caldwell "Tackdriver" bag and scope set at 9X, my Winchester Xpert rifle shot 5, 5 shot groups with Eley Match ammo that averaged 0.83 inches. With CCI Standard Velocity, it averaged 0.86 inches. Not great groups but the rifle is brand new so additional break-in and experimenting with other ammo is warranted. But, the results seem to indicate that the rifle performs nearly as well with inexpensive ammo as it does with the match grade pricey stuff.
