Havn't seen the 34 grain in years. Real shame, because several of my rifles really liked them, and they were very effective on varmint. Sad too, the reputation that Winchester is building in it's rimfire line. I won't buy another Winchester product until I start seeing some positive reviews of anything made by Winchester.

I know this thread is quite old, but thought I would give it a little revive for my first post. Perhaps throw some shade at Winchester, and see how experiences others are having with the new Win 34gr. I have a Marlin 925m that I have had for years. It loved the old supremes. At the time, I never got to shoot very much because I didnt have the space for it. 6 months or so ago, I bought a new house with some space. Literally a mile to the closest house out of my backyard so naturally shooting frequency has increased. About 3 years ago I bought a couple CZs, a 457 in WMR as well as a 512. Naturally they are a dream to shoot compared to the Marlin, but since I'm shooting more, I got down to my last box of OLD Winny Supremes. I loved those rounds, way more devastating than anything on the market now with the only exception being the TNT bullets from Federal and CCI. But the 34 gr Winchester does seem to offer slightly more penetration while still reliably expanding much more so than the 40 grain offerings, and even the 30 vmax in my experience. Getting back on topic, I thought if Winchester discontinued and "revamped" the 34 gr round, it couldn't have possibly got worse......so guess what I did.... Ordered 500. When I got them, I was excited. The marlin was going to be happy and there would be something that could be relied on. First thing I did was open the box to check out the differences.... %%%. Not the same at all. First off, right away you can see the difference between the opening of the hollow point. The old ones have ZERO exposed lead, the new ones do. Thats just what I see. As far as quality control goes, wherever these are made there is no quality control. As a consumer, if someone from Winchester ever contacted me and tried to explain differently, I would not believe them. The openings of the hollow points are various sizes, the bullets themselves, as well as the casings are damaged. Remember, I ordered 500. Didnt count the exact number, but there was over 1 box of defects found, rounds I will absolutely not put through the barrel of my Marlin. That means there is over a 10% fallout rate which is disgusting considering how automated bullet manufacturing is. With that being said, I did not contact Winchester. I am simply keeping these and showing them to you all so you can avoid buying them. Sure Winchester could send me more, but why? The others I've sorted out and tried shooting them. Even at 50yards I'm getting 2.5 inch groups. Some of this was self induced because I bought so many without testing them first. I can accept that, but the quality control of Winchester..... Well, Ill let you guys be the judge.

I guess I can't seem to link, attach, or embed anything. Hopefully this works for you guys.

That’s pretty bad. I bought a couple boxes of Winchester 40gr JHPs a year or two ago, the 150rd value packs. There was no consistency to the bullet seating depths; some were crimped above the cannelure, some below, some on it.

Somehow my old Ruger 77/22 VMBZ still shoots them under .5” @50, but the rounds look terrible.

A couple 50rd boxes I bought since then (but before I knew about the defects) look much more consistent. Makes you wonder if Winchester tries to bulk sell their crappy rounds.
