I am assuming, from the post, that you actually saw these at a local Cabela's. If so, very lucky for you. I would love to see that whole collection but don't travel that much.

That's one cool exhibition that Remington loaned out.
The white 66 stock reminds me of white chocolate.
One of Tom Frye's 66's and MB 66 serial number 10 is cool too.
My bosses white Bison would like that white 66 !

 

Never saw one like that! Mine (now nephew's) was Mohawk Brown. I've seen the Seneca Green and Apache Black one but never the other color variants.

 

I wonder what was different about the "Experimental" 572 at the top ?
Looks like the rear sight is a reddish orange, no blast shield, and the checkering is different, but that's all I can see.

 

The stock looks like maple, and the receiver/barrel look green...I could be wrong on the maple, though...could be a reflection in the glass that looks like maple figure. Prototype Tealwing maybe?

 

Remington field tested the white version here in upstate NY. Problem was we had a real bad winter that year with a lot of snow. Most of the rifles were lost when dropped in lake effect snow drifts. So they discontinued the color.

I guess if you have some Duracoat you could have a white Nylon 66.

 

I have done several plastic/polymer stocks in Cerakote.
This is one of my Mini-30's I did in FDE.

The metal on my Nylon is pretty nice, I'd hate to alter it.
But if I find another 66 that has abused metal, I'd like to Cerakote the barrel and receiver cover in a grey Cerakote.

I don't think that is a purple stocked rifle. I think it's just dark brown and weathered.

 

I wonder what happened to the contents of the museum when Ilion closed? Did they open a new museum down south or did it end up parted out? I was in there 4 or 5 times since the 80s but last time was mid 2000s. It's very sad driving by there now seeing the empty factory. It's very old and huge. Go on Google Maps and you can drive around it on the Street View. I don't know what they could use it for. I,m sure it's a toxic waste site with all the chemicals used there over 200 years.
