Bergara B14's and CZ 's dominated the 2024 St Louis outdoor nationals. One Tikka out of 77 shooters, a couple of Christenson ( sp?) Arms, and a Savage Mk2

This is my factory rifle, it holds it's own against the higher end models when I do my part. A good set of flags is a must also. I'll bet not many of this model is being used in matches.

I shot the first three cards with my MTR; 2160, 1710 and 2050.
Shot last five with T1X; 2350,2375,2225,2375 and 2250. Should have shot the whole match with the Tikka. MTR gone down the road.

good for you, ,milage can vary as they say in the car business.

Recently I seriously considered building a FrankenTikka instead of a FrankenZ, using a Tikka receiver, dropping into a aftermarket long range style stock, bedding it, and having a Shilen, Mueller, or Benchmark barrel fitted for it. I might do that as next years project for a rimfire F class rifle

The numbers I quoted above are from the ARA website, National Factory Championship in St Louis equipment list. It was not a slam on Tikka its just a fact that Tikka was not well represented there, the numbers just are what they are. That does not mean the T1 X is a bad rifle, it just means most people are shooting CZ and Bergara B14's. Same thing in the CF world, there are a dozen good receiver and barrel brands but people tend to follow the leader and one or two brands dominate

Jim,

Cwhuebner (Charlie) and I were both there in St Louis Factory Nationals. So, when you register weeks before the match you fill out the equipment list i.e. brand rifle/ brand ammo you're going to shoot. I walked the line a few times and as I recall there were a few more Tikka's being used than what's on the equipment list.

Jim, you need to make the trip next year.

Yeah equipment lists are not always correct. Not sure if he does it for Factory Nationals but Dan usually walks the line before the start of the first card to check what's being used. However, that doesn't mean people don't change what they using during the match.

Pat,
agree

Brandon S walked the line and checked/looked at the equipment before the start of both days.

I think the list is really close as to what people reported they are going to use, but sometimes things change on practice day before the match or during a match.

I honestly don't know nor do I care if there was one or ten or sixty seven Tikka's. Only rifle I give as darn about is the one I am shooting and I am not married to either it or it's manufacturer. The only thing I can go by is what is on the ARA site's Equipment list for the match and it says there was one and if memory serves the shooter placed in the low or mid twenties. If there is a problem with that you should take it up with the ARA, I can't do anything about that

The time I shot the Tikka in the match is when my CZ - 452's trigger got screwy on the first card and a fellow shooter let me shoot his spare Tikka so yes I know it does happen. Still I think it would turn out to be less than a handful. So the Bergara B 14 and various flavors of CZ would be the overwhelming choice of shooters there

In AZ we have a few CZ's mostly 457's with different combinations of the MTR, a Chassis, an At-One too and equal amount of Bergara B14R's to CZ's and yes there is a Tikka...Frankly they are very close as to how well they shoot it's really a toss up.

However, I started with a B14R and then moved over to the T1X it was ~.1" tighter groupings on average vs the B14R. BOTH are good enough to consistently shoot 2500's but that .1" is just more room for me to mess up a wind call so that's what I shoot. WStewarts B14 is shooting better now that he's figured some things out and it's a competitive rig with the right ammo in the magazine.

Let me get this straight, and YES I have read the ARA Rules.

My CZ 457 Pro Varmint 16.5" with factory trigger, Area 419 Arca Rail on the bottom and a Victor Co. Cheek Riser that is NOT permanently attached is legal for ARA Factory Class?

8.4.1.4.3. Any bipod (a bipod has two touch points on the bench top) is permitted and may be attached to the stock. A rail may be added to the stock solely for the purpose of attaching a bipod. If the rail is wider than a standard picatinny rail (~1”) it must be removed if not using a bipod

So I'm good to go?

What I have is a Pro Varmint Suppressor Ready Click here to see Pro Varmint Suppressor Ready

not a Varmint Precision Trainer (VPT) Click here to see a Varmint Precision Trainer

Mr. Junky,

Yes, the "Pro Varmint" is allowed, you're good to go!
I don't see to many of them in factory class. I see more MTR's Tikka and Bergara's
Maybe I'll see you at the barn in NC in a few weeks!
Good luck my friend!

Thanks for the help. I have a MTR also.

Sound like you have been to one or more of the Rock River Barn Matches. In looking at his Match Schedule he always shoot on Saturday & Sunday.

That barrel says "match" on it. I didn't think the Pro-Varmint had a match barrel. If it's not the original barrel, you're out of factory class.

Guess I will shoot my MTR that has a Match barrel in it. I bought the Pro Varmint used so I don't know.
The whole barrel thing is a can of worms. Technically speaking, the serial numbers have to match.
I have an MTR with the proper match-chambered barrel but it was apparently changed out in production so it's got a mismatch. It came to me in new, unfired condition meaning that this is the only barrel that's ever been mounted and fired on this action. Even that will present problems.
A match barrel on a non-match model is definitely a deal breaker.
That Pro Varmint looks pretty awesome. If it shoots well enough, go ahead and step up to Unlimited. :)
