How was the saddle ring used "back in the day?" I want one because of the nostalgic look, but frankly don't know what they were for. Were they used to tie the carbine in the scabbard to prevent it from bounding out at a gallup? While I have ridden horses in ranching as a kid, I never carried a rifle.
