I see that the Weaver T36 scopes prices have risen on Ebay to around $749.95 lately and continuing to rise. Having only one left I'm looking at getting another for spare. Are they getting to point of overpricing? They were a bargain at $495.00 last year. Are there alternatives priced lower that one can acquire with same quality?

$350-425 tops. Overpaying (more than when it was new) for a used scope is not something I'd do. There are other scopes out there. You aren't seeing more than original price on higher end optics Nightfoce/March etc.
Edit to add..... The XR series (side focus) were in the $600-650 range when they were last available new.
Anyone asking more than $350-425 is taking advantage of you (read as ripping you off).

^^^this. They are pretty good scopes for 50 to 100 yards, but some folks like the Sightron better. Contrast on the Weaver is good, not great. I have several of them because at $350 used, they were a great value. If I was being asked $700, I'd probably look at Leupold or Sightron or one of the "bigs".

I second the Sightron over a Weaver. Weaver is not in business anymore so if anything goes wrong with the scope you’re out of luck. Sightron has excellent customer service. Even if you buy one used they will repair it for you. I bought one used and it had a hair on the inside of the lenses. Called them up, sent it in and they took care of it for no charge. Can’t ask for anything more from a manufacturer.

Vista Outdoors is the parent company of Weaver, Tasco and Bushnell as well as Federal ammo and others. They kept all of them except Weaver which in my view was a stupid move. I have looked at Bushnell for what they produce and they have changed the style so much they dont offer anything I want as far as reticle wise.

There are plenty of Weaver scopes out there. So Just wait to find one for a fair price.

Just a suggestion do what you think is best.

Sounds like these target scopes are all dark.

Perhaps the biggest surprise to those who use one of these powerful scopes for the first time is that theyre very dark. On a heavily overcast day you may find your costly 36X scope is nearly useless, all advertising hype to the contrary. The second thing youll notice is you have to have your eye in just the right position or you wont see anything at all. Heres a closer look at each.

No problem, I have several Weaver Classics now, and have had more than a few over the years, they are a favorite of mine in the 1" tube size. These scopes were very underrated when the were available. Heck, Natchez sometimes blew them out for $299 back a few years ago. I still have a 6-24 varminter reticle on a stock 10/22 Target model and I loaned out a 4-16 to my dad earlier this year, it has the 1/8" dot fine line reticle.
