I have one that is about 10-15 years old, they had a problem with the trigger dis-connector eating up the underside of the slide with their sharp edges.
It's an easy fix providing the gun didn't already chew up the slide.
If the slide is wasted, Earl's Walther Parts can probably supply you with a new one as they did me, and they also stock a lot of the other parts as well.

Walther USA is now the service center, so glad they took it back from S&W, they were terrible at customer service.
The newer pistols supposedly don't chew the slides anymore.
As far as mods to the gun, 1917 has done plenty and has catalogued them all up in the Stickies. I did a few of them and they are useful fixes. I also bought an aftermarket recoil rod assembly that is captive, it makes break-down and re-assembly so much easier.

Thank you very much for the quick answer. I forgot to mention on my previous post, I also purchased the tandemkross captured spring rod.

I have checked the stickies posts but wasn't able find exact answers to my two questions about the differences between AH - DE AK models and if the old style versions can be upgraded to the new q style frame/slide. Please inform me if anyone has experience with this.

 

Calling Walther USA or Earl's might get you an answer a lot faster as far as the frame and slide go.

The slides of the early Q models swap with no modifications. 2011 to 2016. All grips swap. Q model grips do not have a hole for the trigger lock but that part can simply be removed or not used. In 2017, if I remember correctly, the pistol had two changes made that affect the slide. First a captive recoil spring assembly that required a slightly larger guide rod hole. Note: Earlier slides including originals will work with this captive system if the guide rod hole is drilled out slightly to 1/4". Aftermarket systems as already mentioned are also available that match the original and early Q slides with the smaller guide rod hole. All later Q slides have the larger holes with exception of CA models which still use the original long spring style. CA does not allow the factory to make this small change to a previously approved pistol.

The other change was to the QD model released in 2017 with the decocking lever. The slide is OK but usually comes with the breech block/safety drum, etc. installed. There was also a change to the height of the primary hook...it was significantly lowered. I'd been doing this for years but my thinking is that the decocking lever acting on the firing pin block did not quite have enough reach to decock the hammer without the hook being lowered. In any event the feature was dropped from the pistol in a short time. I have one and a more recent slide that fits on the QD pistol with no modification issues.....but, I think I would want a non QD breech block in the slide if fitting it to earlier pistols. I have a Q slide on a 2006 or 7 frame and it works fine with no modifications. I also stuck on a Q grip which fits fine with no modifications.

Old pistol with new duds, over 100,000 rounds through it. I finally did my red dot mount by drilling into the breech block, threading it and bolting on a red dot. Firing suppressed presented a serious issue with blowback gasses ruining the Shield RMS compact quartz protected polymer lenses. The are replacing with glass for me. Hence the nose on the end of the mount to keep the gasses off of the lens. Suppressors create a lot of blowback debris.
