Walmart Ammo Prices

In my area Walmart is certainly the low price leader when it comes to ammunition. These are the 22 prices I've seen in the last few months. Are they comparable to yours? Is there a regional price difference or are your prices the same? This is not supposed to be a bashing or praising thread. Just data sharing. Thought it might be interesting to compare and discuss for everyone. All prices are pre-tax. 9% here.

Remington Golden Bucket o'Bullets - 1400 rounds - $68.00
Remington Golden Bulk Pack - 525 rounds - $28.78
Federal Automatch - 325 rounds - $18.78 (These were $17.87 up until a month ago)
CCI Standard Velocity - 50 rounds - $3.78

We've gotten Automatch almost weekly. CCI every couple of weeks. The Remingtons showed up yesterday, first I've seen of them in almost a year.

I think most Walmart pricing on ammo is pretty close to identical across the country. My local stores ( very high ammo demand area) has rarely had any in stock.
Haven’t checked in the last month or so however.

The reason the Remington started showing up was that after Remington declared bankruptcy and the company was broken up ( with vista the same parent company of federal CCI Hornady among others buying the ammo portion of Remington- close to a monopoly- I think the only American ammo company not part of vista is Winchester) the Remington plant was closed for over a year. They didn’t restart production until a few months ago

I find this interesting. All the local shops seem in lockstep at $10 per box 50 for the non-junk 22LR. Apparently, there is no manufacturer price increase handed down. I was assuming some material and labor increases, but $3.78 for CCI Std is pretty rock bottom. I just did a quick spot check, online, local, Aguila $10 per 50.

It is too bad Walmart dropped 9mm and 45acp. I am totally at the mercy of everybody else. That is when I run out. And if thing ever get normal again.

It does stink Walmart dropped 9mm, 380, .45 and so on..But I sure hope they kep 22 and Shotgun..If not we will be at the mercy of those with crooked thoughts for good.

Say what you want about Walmart otherwise..But it would be devastating to us in the Rimfire shooting crowd if they drop all ammunition..I know they do not sell any "fancy" stuff..But 90% of us are just plinkers and need a cheap source for ourselves, the kids, grandkids..

Made it home and darkened the door of the mal wart for my prescription refill.

They had 1 box of Winchester 333 29.97
30 boxes of Winchester power point 300 packs in old timey looking boxes for 44.97.

That's almost lgs prices....

But its everything. Wife was down south and found 2 boxes of 17hmr in stock. She picked them up for gifts for family. Last time I bought that brand from that particular store it was January of 2020 for exactly 10$ less per box of 50.

Getting stingy with stash compared to 2020.

I would not give 10 cents for any Winchester ammo..I have not seen the ones you talk about at my Walmart locally..But that seems awful high priced for Walmart..They had atleast 60 of the Automatch the other day at 17.97 per 325..

Their limit of three boxes per person is per day.

There is one person in sporting goods that can sell it, or a manager if they can track down the keys to the case. So you can't walk away from the counter, and come back 5 minutes later for more.

So that's 150 or 300 rds, per day.

Edit.. now I suspect you're talking about the bulk stuff. That is useless for us, it can barely hit paper @ 100yds. CCI MiniMags or SV. My math was off, though. 5000rds should see us thru next year, so that's way less than 500 visits - but a long way from a lifetime's supply. Assuming I make it another 10 yrs, we'd need 50,000rds. Plus we want to start shooting silhouette. That's 200rds (.308, currently $2/rd) per match, per month, plus practice.

All this is academic. Good quality ammo (Eley, SK) is available at near-normal prices online. That's what I stocked up on for next year. Plus a few bricks of Blazer and SV for plinking at the local 25yd indoor range.

I've bought about 10 bricks online this year at what I consider near-normal prices.

The only one I'd say was noticeably higher was Blazer, direct from CCI, but it was still cheap enough that the difference really didn't matter.

I'll pick up CCI SV, MiniMags, or Super-X at Wally when I see it. Super-X shoots identical to Blazer @ 25, and close @ 50, from our match rifle. Useless at 100, but so is Blazer and MiniMags.

Of course Walmart has never sold any match grade ammo I have ever seen..Or will, ever..But in this thread we are talking just plinking ammo at Walmart, that is all they sell..I have seen reports of some Rifles shooting just as well with CCI brands as match stuff..Maybe they are full of crap..But that is what I read,LOL

I have not personally seen any 22 ammo online to even close to normal pricing for close to two years now:) So I have purchased zero amount in that period. Not until Walmart started to get it back in in the last couple months have I purchased any..I have piles of it always..But still buy at normal pricing when available..But that is why I always have piles of it,LOL

CCI rimfire ammo is very good ammo. Listening to people, act like it is middle level stuff is rather annoying. Folks do compete with CCI and everybody practices with CCI. Like a broken record, one person after another repeating this line.

Beyond that CCI is the premier maker of hunting rimfire. Mini Mags rule the field as do Std at the club.

If I can never buy RWS again ($10), I would be fine with CCI and I am not plinking. And, yes, I do actually get my fanny off the bench and shoot steel and bullseye. I am simply not competitive or a competitor. I do shoot on the bench to relax. And even on the bench $20 ammo for some minuscule gain, is a total waste of my dollars. Or one has to chase lots, which was annoying even when ammo was available. That is not me!

Back to Walmart, they are doing a good job with CCI. Or so; I am reading here.

I agree completely..CCI is by far most of my stash..It will out shoot my ability and needs by a good amount:) And yes the miniscule advantage the expensive target ammo has over it means squat to me, or to my Rifles and Handguns in .22

I use the cheaper bulk stuff when I want to have some fun with my Binary in my M16A2 dedicated .22 clone. Much, much more fun than sitting on a bench too,,.CCI is too good of stuff for Binary blasting....So I am very glad Walmart also carrys the "junk" ammo too..The cheaper the better..:)

While I hate paying .09-.13/rnd with tax & shipping to be delivered to my door the closest Walmart is a 40 mile round trip and when I do go they're always out. With gas @ over $3.00/gal a single trip will cost $20-$30.00 when all the expenses associated with a vehicle are added in. I'm not driving there daily just to poke and hope. That same Walmart is only 5 miles from the private range my buddy and I go to once a week so we swing by there early in the morning to check then drive back to the range; we haven't been lucky so far.

While I don't like it I have stocked up a little recently with the higher priced bulk ammo online just to save the higher tier ammo we've accumulated prior to the 1st ammo scare back in the early 2000's. The old adage you gotta pay to play has never meant as much as it does today, so even though it's expensive a bad day at the range is better than a good day at work. Glad I'm retired.:bthumb:

Guys heres the thing you must understand about a lot of these online post. People post a lot of comments they know are total lies just to get others going. I always see this on post about walmart and bulk/cheap ammo and it's always the same kind of crap. They always try to put walmart and bulk/cheap ammo down and say they only shoot match grade. Most of the time these are the ones buying up stuff like Thunderbolt bulk packs. They do this to try to make others think highly of them but in fact it makes people like me see who they truly are. If they only shoot top of the line match ammo why are they even on a walmart thread? BTW I love the post where they tell us all how walmart operates little insight my wife is a district supervisor and I know when their lying.

Good for you..I am blessed with piles of 22 ammo..I give it away on occasion when times are tough for friends..

I know alot of people like to rag on Walmart for many different reasons. People act like Walmart is the only place that sells Chinese products..Sorry they all do,LOL.Some go as far as they should be gone completely..Be careful what you wish for..If Walmart did disappear overnight..Can you imagine the state of the Country tomorrow..It would be in ruins, and chaos,LOL They are a necessary evil now, live with it till a new King comes along..

I like the ones that claim they will never step foot in there..Yeah right..Most are full of crap..I go seldom. Wife goes a few times a month..Pretty much has to...But I have to use them on occasion too..Unavoidable sometimes..I sure do not want them gone..

I will be honest, I hate Walmart , but when they had 22 ammo( it is showing up at my local store) I bought cci mini mag, and sv , federal, Winchester, Remington, at good prices and I bought a lot of it.I don’t shoot match, as a matter of fact I haven’t fired a shot in 2 years (22rf) but when everybody was sitting at home ammo-less I could have went every day. So when 22 comes plentiful the people who have went without should stock up, because this crap will happen again.

Yesterday afternoon I accompanied my wife to Walmart and I went by to see if they might have some CCI SV. No luck there but they did have a shelf full of 325 count packs of Federal bulk. The price came out at 5.4 cents a round before tax which I suppose is fairly reasonable for that quality ammo in today' market conditions. I don't need anymore grandkid plinking ammo so left it all for someone else.
