Walked away from a CZ 457...

...but it wasn’t easy. Went to a range and enjoyed shooting this morning. Stopped by Fort Thompson’s in Sherwood, AR.

They had a gorgeously stocked 457 American in 22WMR. Priced at $459. Boy, it was tempting. But I think I want a 457 Lux in 22LR, so I passed on it.

I was very impressed with the fit and finish of this 457. Action was not BRNO smooth, but definitely would be very slick after a few 1000 rounds.

Well, since you started a thread about having the opportunity to buy a 457 but passed on it, three days ago I passed on two. But in response I did pick up a very very nice Sako M78. To me, the 457 is just another gun that can be purchased anytime I want one for the next several years. I actually have zero interest in the 457's and I love CZ firearms. I even have a few CZ pistols with a couple of Dan Wesson's tossed in. So I am a huge CZ fan, but the 457 just doesn't interest me (at this time).

Mine was a little rough to start. I noticed the underside of the bolt where they stamp serial # and trade marks was burred from stamping/engraving, polished with stone and while I was at it polished the bolt guide. Now it's a very smooth running action. I have also had to do this with 455's some rougher than others

Fourbore,

Thanks, and I agree. For awhile now, my interest have shifted to older guns.

SDBigDog1955,

Thank you, I will say this rifle seems very (more so than other rifles I have) sensitive to different holds. It is a steep learning curve to shoot it.

Ruger1300,

The scope is a Weaver T36, model # 849970. I waited for Natchez to put them on sale and got it shipped for $331. I would have rathered had the side focus model but couldn't justify the price difference.

Tim, that is a nice M78! I have one, too. And it will be among the last I offer to my son 2 when I can no longer shoot.

I agree, there is no rush on the 457, but a good M78 doesn’t come by very often.

Thanks, and you are correct, about the rarity of the M78. This is the first one I had been able to touch. I apologize for ruining your CZ thread. I do have some questions about the M78 and I will post it in the correct area so please come look.

Week ago we fondled the 455's and 457's at Miller's in Sugarcreek. I kept going back the the 527's Guess it's what I use to. There was one rifle that really stirred my Gun-mones. A Steyr Zephyr II for $895.:bthumb: I just don't think the 457 will do it for me.

Timber I was in my Local gun shop today, they ordered 50,000.00 for 2019 from CZ and the first 457 can in this week .17 American. I guess I didn't like the bolt or the looks of the stock or the feel. The barrel coating looked ok, should be durable. 60 deg bolt and loaded indicator with the normal safely were good points. They will call when the line of 22LR come in and I can choose the one I want?? Going to have to take a good piece of wood !! This wood was real dark almost Black...butt pad not ground down even with over hand and under cuts  I took it to the window for a mother nature look and I could see some grain under the black stain/oil?? I don't know how they applied the finish so I need to find that out before I purchase. The end of the bolt looked good, very smooth and the action worked good, top of the bolt has that groove that will fill will dirt if u are careless. o-well
