They were $79 when I was shopping for my first rifle in 1978-79. I ended up buying a Marlin model 60 for $37.

 

79 bucks for American made rifle. Guess that was kind of expensive then.i was born 1980 .they made good stuff then.iam not fan of modern made firearms .

 

$80 in 1979 is equal to $346 today.

 

My first 10/22 was purchased for $59.95 from Big Five Sports in Torrance, CA. It was the one year "Liberty Model"

I believe 1977 was the last year for Walnut stocks. You can find what year yours was made in Ruger's serial # guide on the Ruger website.

 

Has the original factory magizine block style.no manual just the box sitting around long time.home owner was moving to retired home communities. Iam 2nd owner.hardly fired

 

Not only is that a 70s 10/22, it's also a "Liberty" 10/22, meaning it was a 1976 vintage with the Made in the 200th year of American Liberty stamp. Ruger stamped all models with that stamp in 1976. Being a '76 also means no warning stamp. You even got the hbox. Great find. Congrats.

Put it on gunboards site sold fast.iam not ruger collector nothing against them .I collect ww2 firearms and vintage rimfires 1906 winchester models 1890s era .

 

I also have the same rifle made in 1976. I bought it in 1977. This rifle taught my kids to shoot. Been a great rifle it accounted for thousands (I’m not kidding) of ground squirrels in the alfalfa fields of eastern Oregon in the eighties. Enjoy it and shoot it a bunch.

 

I have a low 3 digit serial numbered 10/22 made during the first month of production. Found unmolested at a LGS a few years ago.

These two 10/22s were given to me by a family friend (long story) but did not come with boxes or even magazines! I actually like the blued (older) one the best! Such a classic design, who doesn't love a 10/22?!!!

 

Hermans sporting goods is where I bought my first 10/22. 69$ on sale. Although I’m not ready for the retirement home just yet. Nice find!

 

Made in 1976. Gave one just like it to my grandson some years ago.

 

My brother bought one back in the early 70's used. He had some issues with the trigger last summer and took it to a local gunsmith up in NH. to fix the problem. The gunsmith told him he had one of the earliest 1022's Ruger put out. It was one of the first 100 built.
