Used T/C Silver Lynx or New Ruger 10/22?

I have the chance to buy a used Thompson Center Silver Lynx .22LR S/N S2040 in excellent shape for $250.00. Or should I just go get a new Ruger 10/22 synthetic stock gun for $200.00? Myself and almost 13 year old son have been getting into shooting .22LR lately and don't want to use my 50+ year old Marlin 81DL for the amount of shooting we will be doing. I have seen the posts with chipping of the chamber and will need to check the T/C Silver Lynx over again. I have it on hold right now at local Gun shop.

The good thing about either company, they both have pretty good customer service. That said, the used T/C even if it has a chipped chamber will still have a lifetime warranty, so that could mean a new rifle in your future although you would likely have a bit of a wait.

The T/C will likely be a far better shooter and value than any stock 10/22.

Went with Ruger 10/22 synthetic stock/stainless gun. Too many unknowns with the T/C Silver Lynx. I would not have the heart to tell my Son that we got a new gun, but it has to go back to the factory and then in 4-5 months we get a new one. If it was just for me I would do it and see what happens. I spoke with customer Service at Thompson Center yesterday and asked if warranty is transferable to second owner and was told NO!!! Good luck to everyone who has one. If I needed a new receiver or bolt for the 10/22 I could have one today and have gun fixed and shooting within hours. I'm not being a wise*****, just saying the facts. The shop had a new R-55 all weather with s/n S25xx and it had same chip as the Silver Lynx. I guess that is why the new R-55 was down to $398.00 from original price of $550.00. I am sad because both the Silver Lynx and R-55 are beautiful guns and very well made. Thanks for advice.

Nothing wrong with a "tentwentytwo" especially if you like to tinker.
I have 7 (or maybe 8):coco: I can tell you that only one is completely stock and unfired...the rest have had mods done from 600-$1,200 and except for one.... none shoot as good as the Lynx.

You are assuming that it has a chip..... it probably doesn't.... Most folks here look for the chip so they can get a new gun. It would have to be a VERY BIG chip for me to even consider sending it back.

T/C does not do a "background check" to see who the original owner was, they just fix or replace.

Good luck with the 10/22.. have your son pick out some of the mods and have him help you with the installs etc... we need to keep the next generation interested in this.:bthumb:

I called McBride's Guns at 2:30 this afternoon, (thanks, mbmurray!), but the gun had already sold this morning. :(

It was a terrific price, and I'm not surprised that it didn't last! Somebody's going to be happy with that gun.

I would have been all over the Silver Lynx and I had two of them before T/C replaced the last one with a new R-55 All Weather. They are shooters and if I had to wait for T/C to get me a new one at that price it would have been well worth the wait.

I have never once had a problem with T/C when it came to warranty work. :bthumb:
