Winchester is going to try to appeal to the US market with the typical "straight line" stock as shown in the picture I posted.

I really hope that the Winchesters version comes with the adjustable trigger but as was posted before, the Lawyer ran corporations may put a nix on that.

Zanders sent me a reply about the availability of the Wildcat.

we don't have any idea when we will see them, they kept promising the Winchester Wildcat 22lr sporter to us by September and we haven't seen those yet, now they are saying Feb/March on those.

At what is distance is the parallax of the PO 4x32 Pilad set at.
The scope will be mounted on a TOZ 78-06 .22lr rimfire.

It was set at 100 m. So the minimal distance for clear, parallax free
picture is 50 m.

Now those TOZ 78 mounts look like what I was after . . .

. . . I've made do pretty well with Leupold tip off see thru mounts under a mid 70's made Japanese Tasco 4x w/ heavy European reticle. I would like to find out the cost of the above mounts anyway - they look sleeker than my mounts.

I ordered one of the Belarus 4x scopes shown above from Kalinka Optics (fast service!), but it has a 7.62x39 400 meter range finding illuminated reticle meant for centerfire shooting. Saw it in a RFC post and thought it would complement a CZ 527 7.62x39 carbine very well. The optics are rather clear for a scope costing less than $100.

Parallax: Rimfire vs Centerfire

What's the difference between a rifle scope meant for a rimfire or another
telescopic sight model intended for use on a centerfire?

Mechanically, the two optical sights maybe, almost, identical.

However, the rimfire scope maybe be parallax corrected at shorter range.
While, the centerfire scope should be parallax corrected at a greater distance.

For US optical instruments, the rimfire range is approximately 60 yards.
Fixed-power centerfire rifle scopes are, generally, parallax corrected at 150 yards.

The Leupold Answer Guide

What is Parallax?
Parallax is essentially an optical illusion. It is the apparent movement
of the target relative to the reticle when you move your eye away from the center point
of the eyepiece. It occurs when the target does not fall on the same optical plane
as the reticle. Maximum parallax occurs when your eye is at the very edge of the exit
pupil. (Even in this unlikely event, our 4x hunting scope focused for 150 yards
has a maximum error of only 8/10ths of an inch at 500 yards.) At short distances,
the parallax effect does not affect accuracy. (Using the same 4x scope at 100 yards,
the maximum error is less than 2/10ths of an inch.) It is also good to remember that,
as long you are sighting straight through the middle of the scope, or close to it,
parallax will have virtually no effect on accuracy in a hunting situation. For more information,

How are the Rimfire scopes different from the other scopes?
The Rimfire Special scopes are adjusted at the shorter parallax free distance of 60 yards
and have the Fine Duplex reticle.
The two rimfire models are:

What is the problem of installing a centerfire telescopic sight on a rimfire rifle
without recalibrating the parallax?

A potential aiming error of, approximately, 3/16 (.189) inches to 13/64 (.203) inches could occur.
If this much impact error is of no significance in your rimfire shooting/hunting environment,
then, there should be no problem.

Apparently, some of the Russian optics sold in the USA intended for short range use
(read as: Close Quarters Battle weapons or rimfire rifles) are parallax corrected at 100 meters (110 yards).

My guess is, the Russians are simply being pragmatic.
The impact error is so slight -
it seems, from their prespective ... insignificant.

At least, not significant enough for the market to warrant another model.

I LOVE My 78!

The little Russian blond is definately a "Best Buy"
I have seen one Winchester , wouldnt have it on a bet... The marketing geniuses at Winchester take a perfectly well made little carbine, remove the externally adjustable trigger, slap on an "American" schnabel-ended piece of walnut stained birchwood , replace the perfectly adequate hooded front and safari-type rear sights with what they call a "Microadjustable" rear and an unshielded front postissed: I didn't get my hands actually touching the Winchester to see if the marketing boys had done anything to the freefloating barrel I have on the 78, but I could see only one mouinting screw. ... The mounting screw on my 78 was a problem = after the first couple of 10 round magazines, the groups started to string & open up, til I figured out the recoil on the little lightweight was shaking the mounting screw loose - a couple drops of LokTight solved that problem
It took a couple of bricks of Winchester Experts to shoot the stiffness out of the bolt... smooth now. :bthumb:
The plastic mags are cheesy looking to those who still think of magazines and ferrous metal in the same thought group, but these specemins are surprisingly well made and deliberately designed to be disassembled and REASSEMBLED with ease. They have all functioned smoothly with no failures to feed either Hi or standard velocity loads.
I use mine for sporterweight benchrest shooting with a Japanese 24X Tasco target scope on High rings... it shoots as well as custom sporters costing their owners a thousand $ more... Not bad for a $130 little Russian hunting caarbine.

TOZ 78 Very Heavy Barrel: Wildcat Target/Varmint

The new Wildcat Target/Varmint rifle has a highly accurate, heavy .866" diameter bull barrel.

I am sold on this new Winchester with the heavy barrel. Does anyone know when they will be available? I like the regular TOZ rifle as well but don't like the dark wood. Can someone point me in the direction of who is selling the light wood version?
