Our club has been shooting a "Retired Old People's" (ROP) match for a few years now. Beginning today we have increased the number of matches from twice monthly to weekly. We shoot the IBS 50 yard rimfire target with "cheap" ammo, now considered to be any .22LR cartridge costing $10 or less a box of 50. We shoot two targets for a possible 500-50X. Any rifle, any scope.

Today, for the first time, I used my Bergara B14r topped with a Weaver TX-36 scope. My cartridges were SK Pistol Match Special. Of seven shooters I placed second. I dropped two points on the first target for a 248-6X but scored a 250-8X on the second for a total of 498-14X. Not a good X count but there was a fair amount of wind today so just scoring 10's was challenging. The winner scored a rare 500 with 20 X's. He used an Anschutz but I only know that it's a 54 action.

My Bergara is factory stock except for the Timney trigger that is set for 10 ounces. I went through 70 rounds without a hitch. Feeding from the magazine, chambering, firing and ejection were all perfect. I was impressed that my cold bore first shots on my two target's sighter bulls were donut X's. That's generally a sign of a good barrel.

I'm pleased with today's outing and the performance of the Bergara. It's going to get a lot more use.

That's awesome glad your B14r is a winner. I always hold my breath first time out to the range with any new rifle.
I have one coming in to my FFL hopefully tomorrow and if I'm lucky hope its as good as yours and others I've seen the targets from.
Been stockpiling various grades of ammo from RWS Match rifle, RWS R50, SK Rifle match, SK standard+, SK Pistol Match+ Wolf Match Extra, Eley Club, Eley Match and GA$$$P:eek::eek: Eley TeneX.
Really looking forward to shooting it.
Can not choose between my SII 36x42, Swift 8-24x50 or my Hawke 8.5-25x40. Most likely will go with the Hawke for starters as it's equipped with zero stop and locking target turrets and unlike the other two, not on a rifle.

If possible you should post pictures of your targets. All here enjoy seeing targets.

Not the best pictures but here you go. On target two, the only questionable shot was bull #5 which I'm showing enlarged. I'm the official scorer but I refused to call that one because it's my target and I want the results to be fair. The difference? I would finish 2nd place if it was a 10 and 3rd place if it was a 9. It was checked by multiple people - including the gentleman who finished 3rd - using a magnified circle scoring tool and a magnified plug. All agreed that it is a 10... barely. The "P" means it was checked with the magnified scoring tool; i.e., "plugged". Both targets shot at 50 yards with my Bergara B14R and SK Pistol Match Special. Cross winds likely reached 7mph at times.

We do a similar thing at our informal matches and I enjoy shooting the "cheap" ammo. However, when compared to just about any other rifle caliber, even an "expensive" box of .22 LR is still cheap. That is how I justify buying $18-$22/50 ammo anyway. LOL

Fort Valley Gun Club, Fort Valley, GA. Our matches are open to the public, including this one for those who can make it on a weekday morning. We shoot this match every Thursday at 10:00 AM. Most arrive at least 1/2 an hour early to set up and get in some practice shots.

Our website: www.fortvalleygc.net The schedule for our matches is on the home page. Match results are linked at the bottom of the page.

We have something similar here in Virginia. Sunday is match day. Anyone in the area come on out. Open to the public.
Sounds like a fun match. Our ROP match is free until we need to buy more targets. Then we ask $5 of each person who participates. Our Saturday matches, shot twice monthly, costs $5 for everyone. I'm Match Director for the rimfire match and we generally have at least six and sometimes 10 or more. Just depends on the day.

Looking at your targets that is some really great shooting with factory rifles. Looks like a hard bunch to beat ( ROP ). Don't know if my Bergara with a 45x Leupold will do that. If I can't, I can always use the excuse " Iam only 78 . He has years experience. Take some pictures of them. We are not getting any younger.(y)

No, certainly not getting any younger. I do not have any custom rifles; all of mine are pretty much as they left the factory. For our bi-monthly IBS match, I normally use a 1967 Match 54 Anschutz. The trigger is 16 or 17 ounces. I haven't been able to find one of the "Hair triggers" that were available at one time. They're very expensive when they are found. I used to use a Walther UIT rifle with a very nice 8 ounce trigger but I do better with the Anschutz.

For the ROP Match I've lately been using my Vostock URAL-2, a Russian rifle that is absolutely UGLY but has a wonderful trigger, a stock that rides the bags nicely and is accurate. However, I did well enough with the Bergara B14R that I'll be using it too. I also have a BRNO Model 4 that shoots amazingly accurate.

So what am I up against? My competitors use, among others, a Remington 40X with custom barrel, a couple of custom Suhl 150's, Winchester 52B, several upper end Anschutz rifles, a Vudoo, Kimber 82's, a couple CZ-457 MTR rifles and a few others I can't recall. Our most consistent winner trades off between a Suhl 150 and a Winchester 52B. It's almost 100% necessary to shoot a 250 to even have a chance to win. IMO he reads the wind better than the rest of us and is an excellent shot as well. He wasn't there yesterday and the match winner shot a 250-12X with a custom Suhl 150. Second place went to a heavily customized CZ-455 and a Bartlein barrel. The score was 250-9X.
