Howdy Phil!

https://www.thefactsite.com/march-facts/

20 facts about March!

In old Roman calendars, one year used to be ten months long, starting in March and ending in December.

The "Ides of March" was a day in the Roman calendar equivalent to March 15th. It was considered a deadline for settling debts. It was also the day Julius Caesar was assassinated.

If you were born in March, your birth flower is a daffodil!

March babies are spoiled with two birthstones: aquamarine, and bloodstone which symbolize courage.

There are two zodiac signs in March. Pisces, which is until March 20, and Aries which is from the 21st.

The first month of spring is March, which starts between the 19th and the 21st.

March is the equivalent of September in the Southern Hemisphere.

Every year, March and June finish on the same day of the week.

March is the time of year when animals start waking up from hibernation.

The name for March comes from Mars, the Roman god of war. It was named as such in both the Julian and Gregorian calendars.

The Vernal Equinox occurs around March 20 or 21st. This is when the sun is directly above the equator, making the day and night equal length.

The Anglo-Saxons called March "Hlyd monath" meaning "Stormy month" or "Hraed monath" meaning "Rugged month."

The popular social media outlet Twitter was launched on March 21, 2006, with the first tweet going out the same day. It was posted by the founder, Jack Dorsey, which read "just setting up my twttr."

Saint Patrick's Day occurs every March 17th, celebrated in many western countries to commemorate the day Saint Patrick died.

Easter Sunday is another popular holiday of this month. Originally observed by Christians to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, it has now become a holiday involving egg hunting, candy, and the Easter bunny.

Statistically, March is the most unproductive month of the year in the U.S. This is the result of "March Madness" which is the season of the NCAA. Some companies lose up to $1.9 billion in wages paid to workers who were not productive and instead spent company time on betting on NCAA games.

Back in the older days, March was when military campaigns would resume that had previously been put on hold for winter.

On March 10, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell made the first-ever phone call. It was to his assistant and he said "Mr. Watson, come here. I want to see you."

The Eiffel Tower was ascended for the first time. Eiffel himself led a group of government officials and members of the press to the top. The elevators were not in operation yet, so the journey was made on foot and took over an hour.

President John F. Kennedy founded the Peace Corps on March 1, 1961. It is a successful volunteer organization that has since sent at least 235,000 Americans abroad to developing countries to help with health care, education, and other human needs.

Good afternoon!

Nice and sunny out, weather bunny says we're gonna get warmer and warmer throughout the week. I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow morning was our last freezing temp of the season.

Looks like I should trim my trees soon before they start budding out.

Easter Sunday is another popular holiday of this month. Originally observed by Christians to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, it has now become a holiday involving egg hunting, candy, and the Easter bunny.
Easter Sunday is somewhat attached to Passover (some good history there), and is found in April more often than in March at roughly a 3:1 ratio.

Eastern Orthodox Christians run a different calculation and can celebrate Easter as late as the 8th of May :)

I wish that I had some nice big hunks of beef. Steaks, hamburger, etc., anything, all too expensive. Wonder if my neighbors up the road would miss a cow? ahhh, I wouldn't have room to store it if did pop one.

March is when the Porcupines all gather in the road looking for road salt to spice up their diet of tree bark. Tenderized by logging trucks they may not be that bad tasting. May just have to pick a couple up during our trip tomorrow for taco meat.

I have been up all night and caught first but it was by pure luck. Was watching vids on YouTube and needed a break, dropped in on RFC and Rhody had just flipped. I sleep odd hours anyways when I feel rough and don't have to go anywhere. It'll be daylight enough soon to put out a scoop of food to Sister and Big boy if he's here. Bigboy has been staying here a lot. He's still scared of me and won't come on the porch until I'm in the house. One of the biggest tom cats that I've ever seen. My biggest indoor cat is Mr Rowdy who weighs 15 pounds and Bigboy is vastly larger. He's a good looking cat. Got a neck big around as the calf of my leg.

Good Morning RFC'rs, et al:

The ships on the river are telling me it's a foggy morning. About Sixty degrees. (My weather station has been moved out to the truck already)

Karen and I ate at Signette Landing

Too much fried food, but the oysters were good. I should still have an oyster, crabcake and a piece of fish in the fridge for breakfast, . . . , If Karen didn't get hungry in the middle of the night.

Carnival is in full swing. If'n y'all can't make it yourselves, at least send your young attractive daughters. Tell them to pack light. Clothing is optional.

No range today.

I think they have some of the better/best crab cakes around.
Overall most of their stuff is good that I've had there.

Myself & 2 guys were working near the airport right by the Harbor Seafood & Oyster Bar. Dispatch let me know that the Harbor was one of the better place to eat. We tried it. It was OK. Crab cake lunch special was not as good as Segnette Landing's crab cakes. $15 vs 22 @ Segnette though.
Overall Harbor did look like it had some good stuff happening. It reminded me of all the old school seafood places, many that "ain't der no mo".

Leftover seafood omelette and omelettes with leftovers are my wheelhouse on the weekends.

Nice catch!

I just re-read the copy & paste and corrected it. Thanks!

Lively bunch here this morning!

I awoke at 6:15am and couldn't get back to sleep. so decided to get up to do the TWH flip. It's too late to try to catch another hour or two so I am going to make coffee instead!

Getting up at 5:15am 5 days a week has programmed my body to get up early. As much as I would like to sleep in on the weekends, most times I am not able.

Someone has surely tried Porcupine. The perfect meal and comes with their own toothpicks.
Have eaten muskrat on occasion and tastes like chicken, very good if skinned proper avoiding scent glands. Swamp rabbit.

The undercover cop on ‘Hill Street Blues’ developed a taste for cats, preferably milk fed kittens.
Possum is said to be good if captured, caged and fed a sweet potato diet for at least thirty days.

After shooting a canoe full of carp with bow my Grampa didn’t want to see them go to waste. Smoked a bunch in corn cobs and they still ended up hog feed. Just couldn’t quite get the meat by your nose. Hogs love em but tend to turn canabalistic and will turn on each other and ya don’t want to slip and fall in the hog pen.

Regardless whatever we find before crossing the bridge south my Ulu is sharp and ready to skin roadkill.

Went grocery shopping at Meijers. They only had three 1# tubs of low fat cottage cheese. :(

Somehow Meijers is now cheaper than WM for CO2 cartridges so I spent the money I didn't spend on CCI SV yesterday on more CO2 so I can warm the planet one pellet at a time.

Beer and wine that normally has everything on 'SALE' was looking for regular price on just about every thing. Bought some cheap Glen Elen Cav Sav in the 1.5 liter bottle. For you conisewers, is a real cork a sigh of the good stuff, this had a plastic foam cork in it?

I got carded again. :( I'm long past looking anything other than over 21 or 40 that was the standard most places. Not a fan of show your papers unless it is an election to keep that honest.

Keep an eye out for a deer. :)

Little did I know when brother was contacted last night that they have been without a saw for wood cutting. Middle brother has no sense of maintenance and his Husky 450 likely had watered down gas poured on and left. Wood is their only source of heat with no saw
Went to hardware and got a carb kit and new priming bulb. Guess I'll bring an ultrasonic cleaner and a few saws myself. Big Italian saw to down the big timber.
Another work vacation for the week😟
Depending on wood and not having at least two working saws is poor planning. I hope you get him going.

I never knew porcupines were wood eaters. Learn something new everyday.
I can show you the T-111 on my storage shed come spring when I feel like taking a picture.

I'm going to have to cut 1' all the way around and replace it before the critters can get in. Thinking of putting a band of this in place once I get my trailer hitch put on the car so I can pick some up.

Though Ukraine doesn't need any 2nd amendment, they're a perfect example.

I’ve taken truck tires off rims that were full of quills so try to avoid them if possible. Head first if possible as they tend to turn tail to oncoming traffic. There’s no saving a tire that’s full of them.

I set a blind up in an old growth of White Pine. As daylight broke I'm looking around at girdled trees 40" plus in diameter. Took a wander before lunch and found that Porkies had killed that entire CCC planting that year. Kill 'em all!

Started saws that hadn't been run in five years. Gas that was in them still smelt fine but dumped it in the can sloshed it around and poured more in. Couple cranks and ready to go. Brothers too cheap to use hood premix oil and premium fuel.
An old Italian Olympyk 264 still screams power for a 1970's saw.

Was gonna respond to eflyguy's post about Bermuda having no rental cars on the island. That has changed. You can now rent 2 seat electric cars in either tandem or side by side configurations.
Pro tip, get the side by side.

Kewl. It was over a decade ago when we went.

That said, we'd rather have scooters anyway. That would pretty much be the only reason to go back! :D (nothing wrong with it, we just tend to not go to the same place twice..)
