T1x Update

Just received the following in an Email from Whittaker's.

Doug

Good morning everyone!

As most of you can probably assume we have been getting a lot of phone calls, email, messages about the delivery date on the T1x’s. We have finally got a “statement” from the Director of Product at Beretta USA. It’s not much of a statement, but it’s all we have up to this point. It sounds to us like there hasn’t been any guns shipped from Sako Finland up to this point, which means we are looking at several more weeks at least. (not what we wanted to hear)

We sincerely apologize for the delay, and wish we had some type of control over the issues. These delays are obviously out of our hands, and were unforeseen when we began preselling back in January. We have had several customers cancel their orders. We will accept cancellations with a full refund if you are tired of waiting. With that said, we think this rifle is going to be worth the wait! We wish we had more information to share, as we want to be as transparent as possible, but at this time the statement below is all we have. I have also attached the screen shot of the email for you all to see for yourself.

“We have been working with our colleagues in Finland and are awaiting an updated delivery schedule. Once we have a clearer picture, we will be able to provide some detail to you to share with your customers. I apologize for this inconvenience.”

Let us know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Eric

Maybe if enough people started asking for refunds that would put a fire under them, who knows. Its one thing to be up front and honest, and just tell the truth that they hadnt shipped, but just to blow smoke for several months is sorry. Dont know how much longer Ill wait, but doubt Ill ever by anything else from them.

So the hypothetical CZ killer has another set back. Beretta USA has over promised and under delivers once again. I never saw that one coming. Been there, done that. I like Whittakers and think they are a standup firearms dealer doing the best they can with the hand they were dealt, but they should have known better. I hope Whittakers has learned their lesson, and applies some caution when dealing with Beretta USA in the future. I am not an impulse buyer, and I don't have a pre-order. Emotionally that is working out just fine at this time.

I'll wait on my pre-order, but I can imagine some might be in the situation of getting in on the Tikka T1x pre-order and then learning that CZ was releasing a limited number of right handed 452 Americans in the US. If I were in that situation and didn't have a CZ 452 American, I would likely drop out of the Tikka T1x pre-order to get a new CZ 452 American before this inventory sells out (again). A bird in hand being better than two in the bush, as they say.

You may not have meant anything against Whittaker's, but your post could certainly be read that way (and was). There's frequently a problem with stating something in such a way that it doesn't clearly reflect the intent of the writer.

I expect that Whittaker's is a significant dealer for Beretta, but canceling orders would hurt Whittaker's far more than Beretta, though there seem to be quite a few who want to get into the queue. And Whittaker's are good people. If anyone wants to withdraw their order, they are free to do so, but I'm guessing most will wait it out. I know I will, though I hope it won't be too much longer. And I do have a few other .22s to shoot whilst I wait. :)

Glad I bought my new Sako Quad two weeks ago. Now I can sit back and wait patiently until the T1x is actually in stock. No bad feelings against Whittakers or Sako or even the rifle itself. It's life. **** happens. Now I can start saving for a nice optic to put on the T1x. Looks like I'm going to have time to put some funds away.

EuroOptics told me three weeks ago that the T1x would not show up until September - late August at very best.
Thanks for the update. I finally have all my parts and pieces except for the rifle, so in the meantime I will continue to enjoy my 77/22.

Well, I say I have all the required accoutrements, but what about the bore guide (some call it rod guide)? I wonder who will have them available and when?

I dont care for the look of the optilock, big ugly base with an expensive ring setup. IMHO, scope mounting is a perpetual problem on any gun from Finland. The Tikka has holes drill and tapped for weaver type base. Good that is an easy out. My preference for Tikka, if I ever get one is Warne. No base needed. Why Sako/Tikka cannot provide a simple ring that grips the dovetail - a mystery to me. Tikka used to provide a normal ring free with the T3 rifle. That rings is no longer free and I dont see it on the website. One choice only for a clean mount: Warne.

Spoke with EuroOptic today (6-20-18) and they now expect T1x sometime in August and are getting enormous interest. Their price will start at $468.

They added that the Sako Quad and Finnfire IIs are now being designated as a “special” item in the U.S. and no more beyond current inventory will be offered this year. Whether that is just EuroOptic I don’t know. They said Sako was putting a lot of eggs in the T1x basket.

Also, the Quad/Finnfire II mags will not fit the T1x.

We got an 11mm groove (assuming what I read here is right) and nobody wants rings that mount direct to an 11 groove!!! That should be a good solid mounting platform. No reason a new platform has to be mounted on perfectly good 11mm platform except for lack of good rings. Now, I read there are good finfire rings and good warne rings. What in heck do we need with a massive DIP weaver base or Tikka piggyback base unless to mount some 60mm astronomy telescopes on a 20MOA base for that specialized stuff. That seems like the exception not the rule?

Not meant as an insult to Ben, but; my post just follows his and I am sorry for the tone. But; I am big advocate of low trim scopes and mounts on any gun I carry in the field or even otherwise in general. And taking advantage of a good European system on a European gun. I like CZ rings on CZ groove. It is a slick setup.

I agree, ringmounts directly attached to the 11mm rail should be good and solid.
I did a ton of research before settling in on my choice of rings and bases. I ruled out everything else based on one personal reason or another.
The beauty of choice is that they make a hundred different things for a hundred different people. If we all agreed on the same thing there would be no need for Chevrolet; we’d all be driving basic black Fords. Or, we’d all be stuck with Warne rings. Either way, not pretty.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And similar to you, I’m taking advantage of a good Finnish system on a Finnish gun.

Hey Noknot, Have you checked out this URL?

https://www.burrisoptics.com/mounting-systems/rings/rimfire-and-airgun-rings

Only the part numbers with an asterisk are compatible with the 11mm rail.
These are not the signatures. They do not have the polymer ring.

And check out this URL;
https://www.burrisoptics.com/signature-rings

Look at the signature rimfire and airgun part numbers.
The part numbers with asterisks have spare clamps that fit 11mm rail.
These are the ones with the poly insert.
1 inch tube only

I hope this helps.

From Warne website, referring to center fire rifles:

This is the source of my confusion and prior complaint. I am fine with Warne rings. This " proprietary and measures 16.5 mm wide" apparently applies to TX3 and not TX1. Right?
Yes. That is also my understanding.
The T3 and T3X models utilize a 16.5mm dovetail.
The T1X utilizes a 11mm dovetail.

Caused me a whole lot of confusion as well.

The more I look the more confused I get. I contacted Beretta about bases that would work with the extra low rings, S1300923. They said bases S1320916 but then I see the 11mm base set up S11862354. Whats the difference between the bases. One is $125 and the other is around $60. Beretta didnt even mention the S11862354.

For centerfire you will need the base #S1320916, Tikka Universal. This base fits a 16.5mm dovetail. Designed for the Tikka 500 series, T3 series and Sako TRG. Cost $61.50.

For rimfire you will need base #S11862354, Sako 11mm. This base fits a 11mm dovetail. Designed for the Sako P94S, Finnfire and Quad. Cost $125.00.

1 inch extra low rings for the 11mm base is #S1300923. Cost $74.00.

I hope this helps.
